Chapter 6 - The Subterranean Breach

"William! Give that back to me!" Isabella screamed, abandoning all pretense of elegance as she lunged toward him, her acrylic nails clawing at his sleeve.
William shoved her back with a heavy, furious arm.
He looked down at the phone screen.
The screen was unlocked. Displayed in high-definition digital clarity was a four-quadrant security feed from the sub-basement bunker.
In Frame 1: A live infrared thermal display showing an ambient room temperature of 38 degrees Fahrenheit. In Frame 2: A real-time pulse monitor reading 145 beats per minute—labeled SUBJECT: ETHAN STERLING. In Frame 3: A video feed of a small boy curled up in the corner of a tiled room, shivering violently on the concrete floor. In Frame 4: A prominent red toggle switch labeled O2 VENTILATION GRID - STATUS: ACTIVE (30%).
William’s face went completely grey. The phone shook in his hand so violently that it nearly slipped from his fingers.
He slowly raised his head and looked at Isabella.
The room around them had gone dead silent. The three hundred guests, the senators, the supreme court justice, the caterers, and the security team were all staring at the screen, then at the billionaire, then at his radiant new wife.
Isabella took a slow step backward, her eyes darting toward the main exit doors leading to the courtyard.
"William..." she whispered, her voice trembling, trying one last time to summon her charm. "William, listen to me... he was going to ruin everything... he remembers the hospital in Switzerland... he knows about the financial transfers... I did it for us... I did it to protect our empire..."
William didn't utter a single word.
He didn't scream. He didn't cry out.
He turned to his chief of security—a broad-shouldered former Navy SEAL named Vance—and handed him the phone.
"Vance," William said, his voice dropping into a register of sheer, apocalyptic fury. "Take four men. Break down that hidden wall in the library passage. If you don't have the door open in sixty seconds, I will blow the foundation out with explosives myself."
"On it, sir!" Vance barked, drawing his concealed sidearm and signaling four armed guards.
"And Isabella?" William added softly, turning his gaze back to his wife.
Isabella froze in place.
"If my son has a single scratch on his body," William said, his eyes hollow and dead, "you will not make it to a courtroom."

William turned and sprinted toward the library corridor, his expensive tuxedo jacket tearing as he pushed past guests, with Emma close behind him.
Behind them, Vance’s remaining security team moved in, snapping heavy steel cuffs around Isabella’s manicured wrists as she began to scream hysterically, her satin gown dragging across the spilled champagne on the marble floor.
