Chapter 9 - The Unbroken Legacy

One year later, Rosaria’s Table had become more than just a famous restaurant in Rhode Island; it had become a symbol of community resilience. Every Sunday evening, the restaurant closed its doors to paid customers and opened its long oak tables to the elderly, the lonely, and those who had no family to share a meal with.
Josie sat at the edge of the kitchen, watching sixty senior citizens from all across Providence laughing, playing cards, and enjoying hot three-course meals served by young volunteers.
Dominic walked in through the back entrance, carrying a bouquet of fresh white roses. He walked straight over to the head table where his mother sat, surrounded by three generations of neighbors. He leaned down and kissed her forehead, placing the roses in a glass vase before her.
"How are you feeling today, Ma?" Dominic asked, his hand resting on her shoulder.
"I am eighty-two years young today, Dominic," Rosaria laughed, her voice ringing clear and strong. "And I have never felt more alive."
Dominic looked over at Josie, who was smiling as she organized the dessert trays. He walked over to her, his expression warm and affectionate.
"The city council just passed the official grant for the second community kitchen downtown," Dominic announced quietly. "They're naming it after my mother."
Josie’s eyes sparkled. "That's wonderful news, Dominic. She deserves it."
"We deserve it," Dominic corrected, gently placing his hand over hers on the counter. Over the past year, their mutual respect and shared struggle had bloomed into a deep, quiet, and profound bond—a love built on trust, honesty, and shared purpose.
"Are you coming to sit down?" Josie asked softly.

"Only if you sit next to me," Dominic replied with a warm smile.
Josie stepped out from behind the counter, shedding her apron. She walked with Dominic to the grand central table, taking her seat right beside Rosaria and Dominic, surrounded by the laughter, warmth, and music of a full house.
