Chapter 3 - The Purge of Whitmore Tech

The rain outside the hospital window seemed to intensify, transforming into a furious, driving sheet of silver that completely erased the view of the Seattle skyline. Inside Room 914, the air was static, thick with the scent of ozone and the undeniable aroma of a dynasty collapsing into ash.
Parker looked like a man who had been pulled from a frozen river. His navy suit, which had looked so sharp and authoritative when he entered the room, now seemed to hang loosely from his shoulders, making him look small, withered, and pathetic. He looked at Sienna, his eyes pleading for some kind of support, some shard of the brilliant branding strategy she had promised him during their secret nights at the Fairmont.
But Sienna Vale was already looking at the door. Her professional survival instincts had completely taken over. She stepped away from the medical cabinets, her cream heels clicking softly against the floor as she tried to smooth her silk dress, her face forming a mask of professional neutrality.
"Mr. Caldwell," Sienna said, her voice dropping into a low, deferential pitch as she took a cautious step toward my father. "I think it’s important to clarify that my relationship with Dr. Whitmore was strictly professional. I was hired by the corporation to manage their public image during the upcoming IPO. If Dr. Whitmore crossed any personal boundaries, I was entirely unaware of his marital status. I am an independent contractor, and my firm would be happy to cooperate fully with any investigation the Caldwell Foundation wishes to conduct."
Parker turned his head toward her so fast his neck made a distinct popping sound. "Sienna? What are you saying? You were the one who told me to take the ring off! You said we needed to present a modern, unencumbered image for the California venture capitalists!"
Sienna didn't even look at him. Her eyes remained locked on my father’s face, searching for any sign of mercy, any indication that she could sacrifice Parker to save her own skin. "Dr. Whitmore is clearly unstable, Mr. Caldwell. I was acting under duress. He threatened to terminate my contract if I didn't accompany him to the hospital tonight to assist with the administrative paperwork."
I let out a short, dry laugh from the bed. It was a sound devoid of mirth, a clean, sharp expression of absolute disgust. "You have her perfume on your neck, Parker. She has your mother’s diamond necklace around her throat. Do you really think my father hasn't already pulled the security logs from the Fairmont?"
Sienna’s face hardened, her mask of professional deference slipping for a fraction of a second to reveal the cold, calculating climber beneath.
"Miss Vale," Henry Caldwell said, his voice remaining quiet, almost gentle. He turned his head slightly, his sharp gray eyes landing on her face with the weight of a physical weight. "Your father is Robert Vale, correct? He operates a medium-sized logistics firm out of Tacoma. A firm that relies entirely on the shipping contracts provided by the Caldwell Maritime Group."
Sienna stopped breathing. Her hand rose automatically to cover the diamond necklace at her throat, her fingers trembling against the stones. "Mr. Caldwell... please. My father has nothing to do with this."
"He has everything to do with this, Miss Vale," Henry said, his tone flat, without a single trace of malice or emotion. "Because by 11:00 A.M., those shipping contracts will be transferred to the Crowley Corporation. Your family’s company will be insolvent by the end of the month. Your personal bank accounts, which were heavily subsidized by corporate transfers from Whitmore Tech, have already been frozen under an emergency injunction obtained by our financial fraud division."
"You can't do that!" Sienna shrieked, her carefully cultivated composure completely shattering into an ugly, shrill panic. She took a step toward my father, her fingers curling into claws. "That’s private property! You don't own the banks!"
Arthur Vance stepped into her path before she could take another step, his massive frame completely blocking her from view. "Miss Vale, I suggest you step back. The Seattle Police Department is currently waiting for you in the lobby. They have a warrant for your arrest on charges of domestic assault and trespassing in a secure medical facility."
"Parker!" Sienna screamed, turning around to grab my husband's lapels, shaking him with a frantic, desperate violence. "Do something! You said you were the king of this city! You said your technology made you untouchable! Fix this!"
May you like
Parker didn't move. He stood there like a statue, his eyes fixed on the silver pocket watch that my father was carefully sliding back into his vest pocket. He knew it was over. He knew that in the span of less than twenty minutes, he had gone from a billionaire CEO on the verge of a historic public offering to an unemployed, disgraced physician facing federal fraud charges and total social ostracization.
"Arthur," Henry said, not looking back as he adjusted the white silk pocket square in his jacket. "Remove the garbage from my daughter's room."
