PART 6: THE CONFESSION JULIAN NEVER MEANT TO MAKE

PART 6: THE CONFESSION JULIAN NEVER MEANT TO MAKE

The pistol never wavered.

Julian held it with the relaxed confidence of a man who had never imagined losing.

Behind Elena, Martha gripped the stone doorway to keep herself from collapsing.

Her eyes remained fixed on her son.

Not with hatred.

With unbearable sorrow.

"Julian..."

Her voice trembled.

"Please."

He didn't even look at her.

"This has nothing to do with you anymore."

Martha gave a broken laugh.

"It has always been about me."

Elena slowly lowered the will onto the desk.

Her hands were visible.

Her heartbeat thundered in her ears.

"You don't have to do this."

Julian smiled.

"That's exactly what your father said."

The words landed like a knife.

"So you admit it."

He tilted his head.

"Admit what?"

"You killed him."

For the first time...

Julian's smile faded.

"I never touched Thomas Rivera."

A pause.

"I simply made certain his brakes failed."

Silence swallowed the room.

He had confessed so casually that even he seemed surprised by how easily the truth escaped.

Martha closed her eyes.

"Oh, God..."

"You killed him."

Julian looked irritated.

"I protected everything Father built."

"No."

Martha whispered.

"You destroyed it."

Julian sighed as though he were explaining something to children.

"You both continue making the same mistake."

"You believe this is about money."

"It isn't."

He stepped closer.

"This family was built on legacy."

"My father wanted to give strangers everything."

"Hospitals."

"Scholarships."

"Charities."

"He wanted to hand away generations of work."

Elena stared at him.

"So you imprisoned your own mother?"

"I preserved the company."

"You murdered innocent people."

"I removed obstacles."

The words echoed against the stone walls.

Not once did Julian sound angry.

That frightened Elena more than shouting ever could.

He truly believed he had done the right thing.

Martha slowly walked forward.

Her frail body shook with every step.

"I remember now."

Julian frowned.

"What?"

"I remember Emily."

His expression changed.

Only slightly.

But Elena saw it.

Fear.

Real fear.

Martha looked directly at her son.

"The lake."

Julian's jaw tightened.

"You shouldn't talk."

"You pushed her."

The room became perfectly still.

"You told everyone she slipped."

"You cried at the funeral."

"You let me believe I had looked away for one second..."

A tear rolled down her face.

"But I didn't."

"I saw you."

"No."

Julian answered instantly.

"You imagined it."

"I was afraid."

"You were grieving."

"Your memory has always been unreliable."

The old manipulation.

The same gaslighting.

The same lies he had repeated for twenty years.

But this time...

They no longer worked.

Martha shook her head.

"You drugged me."

"You made me question every memory."

"You told me I was sick."

"You told me Emily's death broke my mind."

Another tear fell.

"But I remember."

She pointed at him.

"You were jealous because she was going to inherit Father's foundation."

"You heard us talking."

"You followed her to the lake."

Julian's breathing became heavier.

"I SAID ENOUGH!"

The sudden roar shook the room.

His calm mask cracked for the first time.

"I WAS TEN!"

He shouted.

"I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND!"

Silence.

Nobody moved.

Because Julian had forgotten one thing.

No one had accused him of Emily's age.

He had supplied that detail himself.

Elena looked at him.

"You just admitted you were there."

Julian realized it immediately.

His face drained of color.

For one brief second...

He looked like a frightened little boy.

Then the mask returned.

Cold.

Controlled.

Deadly.

"It doesn't matter."

He raised the pistol again.

"There won't be anyone left to repeat it."

A loud metallic click echoed behind him.

Julian froze.

"So..."

An older male voice filled the tunnel.

"I finally heard you say it."

Julian slowly turned.

Judge Richard Holloway stood at the entrance.

Beside him were four state investigators.

Two detectives.

And three armed deputies.

One deputy held up a small receiver.

A blinking red light flashed on it.

Judge Holloway spoke quietly.

"Everything you've said for the last eleven minutes..."

He looked Julian in the eyes.

"...has been recorded."

Julian laughed.

Not because he was amused.

Because he couldn't believe it.

"You followed her."

The judge nodded.

"I followed the truth."

Julian slowly backed away.

Toward the tunnel.

Toward the darkness.

His pistol shifted between Elena...

And the officers.

He smiled one final time.

"You think this is over?"

"No."

Judge Holloway replied.

"I think it finally begins."

Julian fired.

The gunshot exploded through the hidden chamber.

Stone shattered.

Dust filled the air.

Someone screamed.

Then the lights went out.

Complete darkness swallowed the room.

And in the black silence...

Elena heard only one sound.

Martha crying out her son's name.

Then...

May you like

A body hit the floor.
