Chapter 10 - The New Dawn

One year later.

The afternoon sun cast long, golden shadows across the rolling hills of the Mercer Estate.

The west wing of the mansion had been completely transformed. Where the scorched kitchen and servant entrance once stood, there was now a beautiful, modern glass-and-stone conservatory known as The Mercer Renewal Center.

Inside, light poured through floor-to-ceiling windows, illuminating open spaces filled with lush green plants, comfortable seating areas, and modern physical therapy suites. It was a haven dedicated to providing free reconstructive care, psychological support, and housing assistance to burn survivors from across the country.

I stood by the grand glass doors leading out to the rear gardens, watching a group of young children playing safely on the lawn under the care of specialized physical therapists.

My left arm was fully functional now. Though the skin bore the faint, silvery traces of scars, I no longer wore long sleeves to hide them. Those scars were not signs of defeat or monstrous deformities, as Serena had so cruelly claimed. They were my armor—the physical proof that I had walked through the fire and emerged whole on the other side.

Elias walked up beside me, holding a small leather leather folder.

"The first quarter reports for the Renewal Center just came in," Elias said softly, handing me the papers. "We’ve successfully housed and treated over two hundred patients this year alone."

"It's beautiful, Elias," I said, looking out at the gardens. "Your father would be so proud."

"He would be," Elias agreed, looking down at me with deep affection. "He always said that true strength isn't shown in how much you build, but in what you protect when everything is burning down around you."

We walked out of the conservatory together, stepping onto the clean stone terrace overlooking Long Island Sound.

A gentle sea breeze swept across the lawn, carrying the sweet scent of blooming roses and fresh saltwater.

There was no smell of ash. No reek of burnt timber. No shadow of deceit hanging over the oak doors.

The empire was restored, the monsters were gone, and the Mercer house was finally, truly home.
