Chapter 5 - Clear Skies Ahead

Six months later.
The morning sun over the Atlantic Ocean was brilliant, painting the clouds below in shades of gold and soft violet.
Inside the main cabin of Horizon Airways Flight 402 bound for London, the atmosphere was peaceful. The hum of the jet engines provided a soothing background melody as passengers relaxed in their spacious seats.
Dakota Gibson—now proudly using her maiden name, Dakota Sterling—walked smoothly through the aisle, carrying a silver tray with fresh tea and croissants.
She moved with an easy confidence, her uniform crisp, her smile genuine and warm. Over the past half-year, she had rebuilt her life entirely on her own terms. The divorce was finalized. The fraudulent debts racked up by Adam had been erased, and her father's firm was thriving under new, honest executive management.
More importantly, Dakota was free. She was no longer living in the shadow of a man who viewed her love as something to be exploited.
In the rear economy row of a budget airline flight crossing the country weeks earlier, Adam was now working as a junior entry-level clerk at a shipping warehouse, living in a small studio apartment, struggling to pay off the personal debts he couldn't erase. Trinity had vanished from his life the moment the money stopped, leaving him completely alone with the consequences of his actions.
As Dakota reached the front galley, her purser, Richard, offered her a warm cup of coffee.
"Great service today, Dakota," Richard said with a friendly smile. "You seem particularly happy this morning."

Dakota accepted the cup, looking out the small porthole window at the endless expanse of blue sky stretching out to the horizon.
"I am, Richard," Dakota said, taking a sip of the warm coffee as a sense of deep, unshakeable peace filled her heart. "The sky is completely clear today."
