PART 3: MY FATHER ALREADY KNEW

I stayed under that table.
Not because I was scared.
Because my father told me to.
And because something inside me knew...
He had prepared for this.
The old radio on the counter caught my attention.
I had seen it my whole life.
A small brown radio with a broken antenna.
But that night...
A tiny red light was glowing.
I had never seen it before.
My father had been recording.
Desmond didn't notice.
He was too focused on his own victory.
"I don't want problems," my husband said.
"I just want this handled."
Dad's voice stayed calm.
"And if I refuse?"
Silence.
Then Desmond said:
"You don't want to make this difficult."
A threat.
Hidden inside polite words.
Exactly who he was.
A man who never looked dangerous.
Because he never needed to.
He knew how to smile.
How to charm.
How to make everyone else doubt themselves.
But my father didn't doubt himself.
He knew.
That's why he told me to hide.
Not because he wanted to protect me from the truth.
Because he wanted me to finally hear it.
Then Dad stood.
His chair moved.
"I'm going to check something."
Desmond stayed behind.
The kitchen became quiet.
Too quiet.
I saw his shoes move.
Slowly.
Toward the counter.
Toward my father's coffee.
My heart started racing.
His hand disappeared into his jacket.
And then...
He reached toward the cup.

That was when I understood.
This was bigger than the house.
Bigger than money.
May you like
He wasn't just trying to take my father's home.
He was willing to destroy anyone who stood in his way.
