Chapter 10 - THE STERLING SUNRISE

Two months later.

The morning sun rose over the rolling green lawns of the Sterling Estate in South Carolina, painting the ancient oak trees and grand white marble fountains in brilliant shades of gold and soft amber.

A gentle breeze blew across the terrace, carrying the sweet scent of blooming magnolia flowers and fresh ocean air from the nearby bay.

Vivian stood near the edge of the stone balustrade, dressed in a long, elegant white silk gown.

In her arms, wrapped in a plush cashmere blanket, lay her two-week-old son—a beautiful baby boy with dark hair and bright, intelligent blue eyes that looked up at his mother with quiet curiosity.

His name was Alexander Sterling.

Behind her, the heavy glass doors of the terrace slid open quietly.

Alvin walked out, wearing a comfortable linen shirt, carrying two glasses of fresh orange juice. He walked up beside his daughter, looking down at his grandson with a smile that softened every hard line on his face.

"He looks like you when you were a baby," Alvin murmured, reaching out with a finger to touch the child's tiny hand. Little Alexander immediately wrapped his tiny fingers around his grandfather's thumb with a surprisingly firm grip.

Alvin chuckled softly. "Look at that grip. He’s a Sterling, through and through."

Vivian leaned her head against her father's shoulder, watching the sun climb higher over the blue horizon.

The mountain retreat had been sold and demolished, its timber and stone cleared away to make room for a regional wildlife sanctuary funded entirely by the Sterling Family Foundation. Diego Vance and Brenna Vance were currently serving fifteen-year sentences in a state penitentiary, their names erased from the business registers of Charlotte, their legacy reduced to a cautionary tale in corporate legal textbooks.

Vivian was no longer the frightened girl who had apologized for protecting her father's legacy. She had taken her seat as Vice-Chairman of Sterling Capital, leading the company’s new philanthropic division for high-risk maternal healthcare.

She looked down at her son, kissing his soft, warm cheek as he drifted back to sleep in the morning sunlight.

May you like

"The world is big, Alexander," Vivian whispered to her son, her voice filled with absolute peace, absolute freedom, and unwavering love. "And you will never have to be afraid of the dark."

Alvin put his arm around his daughter's shoulders, holding his family close under the warm, golden sky, where no shadow could ever touch them again.
