Chapter 8 - The Balance Sheet of the Heart

Six months later, the iron gates of the Moretti estate no longer groaned when they opened. They had been oiled, repaired, and fitted with a smooth, silent hydraulic system that welcomed visitors instead of warning them away.
Inside the grand manor, the silence of a mausoleum had been replaced by the chaotic, beautiful noise of a real home.
In the sunlit kitchen, Noah and Caleb were arguing loudly over whether chocolate chips belonged in pancake batter, while Miles sat quietly at the island sketching a detailed architectural drawing of a treehouse.
At the head of the massive dining table, Claire sat with her laptop open, reviewing inventory spreadsheets and corporate logistics reports with the calm, effortless efficiency of a seasoned hotel manager.
The heavy oak doors of the home office stood wide open.
Adrian walked out carrying a cup of black coffee, stopping beside her chair. He didn't say a word; he simply leaned down, placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head, and set a fresh cup of coffee beside her keyboard.
Claire looked up, catching his eye. The cold, impenetrable fortress boss was entirely gone, replaced by a man who smiled with his entire face.
"How’s the budget looking, Mrs. Moretti?" Adrian teased quietly, his hand resting lightly on the back of her chair.
Claire checked her screen, her bank balance secure, her daughter Lily playing happily in the garden with her new adoptive brothers, her life finally balanced and whole.

She smiled, leaning back against his hand.
"The books are completely balanced, Mr. Moretti," Claire said softly. "And I don't think we'll ever need an audit again."
