Chapter 7 - The Fire In The Tunnel

The sharp bang of the revolver exploded inside the narrow brick tunnel, deafening and bright.

The attacker let out a bloody scream as the heavy bullet tore into his leg muscle. He dropped his knife, stumbling backward against the damp brick wall.

Callum didn't miss his opportunity.

He closed the distance in a fraction of a second, his heavy fist smashing into the man's jaw with the force of a sledgehammer. The enforcer’s head cracked hard against the brick, and he collapsed onto the concrete floor, out cold.

Callum turned to Sadie, his dark eyes wide with shock and intense, soaring pride.

“You shot him,” Callum said, a fierce, dark smile spreading across his face.

“He was talking too much,” Sadie said, her hands shaking violently as she lowered the steaming gun.

Callum reached out, taking the small revolver from her trembling fingers and sliding it back into his belt. He wrapped his hand around her neck, pulling her close, his forehead touching hers in the dim brick tunnel.

“You are a unbelievable woman, Sadie Miller,” he whispered, his voice dark and thick with emotion.

Before she could process his words, Callum kicked open the heavy steel door, revealing a hidden underground garage where a high-performance black sports sedan sat ready.

He shoved her gently into the passenger seat, locked the doors, and jumped into the driver's side.

He slammed his foot onto the accelerator.

The sports sedan roared to life, tearing up the concrete ramp and crashing through the wooden alley gates just as three Moretti cars pulled into the narrow street.

Bullets sprayed against the sedan’s reinforced armor glass, leaving spiderweb cracks but failing to penetrate.

Callum spun the steering wheel with one hand, sliding the powerful car through the narrow alley, cutting through a sidewalk, and plunging into the heavy Chicago traffic on Michigan Avenue.

In the rearview mirror, the headlights of the enemy cars faded into the rainy city night.

Sadie leaned back against the headrest, her lungs heaving, blood roaring in her ears.

“Where are we going?” she gasped.

May you like

Callum sped through a yellow light, his dark eyes fixed on the highway ahead.

“To finish this,” Callum said flatly. “I’m taking their money, and then I’m burning their foundation to the ground.”
