Chapter 5 - The Queen’s Domain

Four months later.
The autumn air over Baltimore Harbor was crisp and clear. The sun reflected off the blue waters of the bay, illuminating the massive cargo ships docked along the private piers of Rossi Maritime Holdings.
In the grand ballroom of the historic Belvedere Hotel downtown, the annual Harbor Executive Gala was in full swing.
The room was filled with Baltimore's elite—politicians, shipping magnates, judges, and high-society heiresses. They drank vintage champagne, ate caviar, and gossiped in hushed tones about the dramatic shift in power that had swept the city over the summer.
Mateo Moretti had vanished without a trace. The Moretti faction had been entirely absorbed by the Rossi Syndicate. The city was quieter, safer, and more organized than it had been in thirty years.
At eight o'clock, the heavy mahogany doors at the top of the grand staircase swung open.
The room fell into instant, breathless silence.
Dante Rossi stood at the head of the stairs. He looked majestic in a bespoke black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, his posture commanding absolute authority.
Beside him stood Marisol Vega.
She was unrecognizable from the girl in the torn denim jacket. She wore a stunning emerald-green silk gown that trailed elegantly behind her. Her dark hair was styled in elaborate braids pinned with diamonds, and around her delicate neck hung a custom platinum chain holding a polished silver medallion—a crowned wolf coiled around a broken sword.
She walked down the staircase arm in arm with Dante, her head held high, her movement graceful, calm, and sovereign.
As they reached the floor, several wealthy harbor directors stepped forward to greet them, bowing their heads with nervous respect.
"Don Rossi," an elderly judge said smoothly. "A magnificent evening. And who is this breathtaking young woman?"
Dante looked down at Marisol, his dark eyes brimming with open pride and fierce devotion.
"This is Marisol," Dante announced, his deep voice carrying across the silent ballroom. "My wife. And the sovereign owner of Rossi Holdings."
The judge’s jaw dropped slightly before he quickly recovered, bowing deeply. "A true honor, Lady Rossi."
Later that night, as the music played and the guests danced beneath the crystal chandeliers, Marisol stepped out onto the private balcony overlooking the city lights.
The cool night breeze whipped through her silk dress. She rested her hands on the stone balustrade, looking out over the twinkling lights of Curtis Bay in the far distance.
Soft footsteps sounded behind her.
Dante wrapped his heavy arms around her waist from behind, pulling her back against his chest, burying his face in the warm curve of her neck.
"Are you happy, my wolf?" he whispered softly against her skin.
Marisol leaned back against his solid strength, placing her hands over his. She felt the heavy weight of the silver medallion resting against her chest.
"I spent my whole life cleaning up after people who didn't care if I lived or died," Marisol said softly, turning in his arms to look up into his dark, beautiful eyes. "I thought safety meant staying hidden in the shadows."
Dante smiled, cupping her face in his hands, his thumbs tracing her cheekbones with absolute warmth.
"And now?" he asked.
Marisol reached up, wrapping her arms around his neck, pulling him down toward her lips.

"Now," she whispered, "I know that safety isn't hiding from the dark. It's owning the man who rules it."
Dante kissed her—deep, passionate, and possessive—beneath the autumn stars, while the city below lay quiet at their feet.
