Chapter 10 - The Light in the Estate

One month later.

The Moretti estate was bathed in bright, golden autumn sunlight. The heavy velvet curtains that had blocked out the world for five years were permanently drawn back, allowing the light to flood every room, corridor, and gallery.

The Romano syndicate was gone, absorbed entirely into the Moretti network or dismantled by federal authorities following the massive paper trail Alessandro had provided.

In the grand library, Alessandro sat behind his heavy mahogany desk. He wore no dark glasses. He wore a sharp blue suit that matched his clear, vibrant eyes. He was reviewing shipping contracts, reading the fine print without the aid of glasses or magnifiers.

A soft knock sounded at the door.

Elena stepped inside. She wore a beautiful emerald-green dress, her hair pinned up gracefully. She was no longer wearing a housekeeper’s uniform. Two weeks ago, Alessandro had officially dissolved her domestic contract and appointed her as the Operations Director of the Moretti Charitable Foundation—a organization dedicated to funding pediatric care across Italy.

“Am I interrupting?” Elena smiled, holding two mugs of fresh coffee.

Alessandro set his pen down, a genuine smile illuminating his face. “You could never interrupt, Elena.”

She walked over, placing his coffee on the exact spot on his desk where his hand rested. He caught her hand before she could pull it away, bringing her knuckles to his lips for a soft, lingering kiss.

Elena flushed warmly, her hazel eyes dancing with happiness.

From the hallway outside, the sound of tiny, energetic footsteps echoed across the herringbone floor.

Mia ran into the library, wearing a bright pink dress and carrying a brand-new, top-of-the-line metal flashlight that Alessandro had custom-made for her—engraved with the words To My Little Lion.

“Don Sandro!” Mia called out, skidding to a stop near his chair. “Look! I found a dark spot under the sofa!”

Alessandro chuckled, stepping out from behind his desk and kneeling on the rug beside her.

“Did you clear the dark spot, officer Mia?” Alessandro asked with mock seriousness.

“Yep!” Mia declared proudly, flashing the bright beam against the bookshelf. “No more monsters!”

Alessandro looked up at Elena, who was watching them with profound love and tenderness in her eyes. He reached out, taking Elena’s hand once more, pulling her down beside him so they were all together on the sunlit rug.

For five years, Alessandro Moretti had walked in absolute darkness, believing his life was reduced to shadows, cold business, and bitter survival. He had thought sight was something granted by doctors and medicine.

But as he held Elena close and listened to Mia’s joyful laughter filling the bright, open room, he realized the truth.

Sight wasn't just about eyes. It was about knowing where to look.

And for the first time in his life, the Don was looking at his true home.
