Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece

Six months later.
The grand opening of the Vance-Gallo Art Gallery was the biggest event of the spring season in Manhattan.
The sprawling, glass-walled gallery in SoHo was filled with high-society collectors, art critics, politicians, and high-ranking business leaders. The walls were lined with breathtaking sixteenth-century Italian paintings, meticulously restored to their original brilliance.
Nora stood near the center of the main hall, dressed in a stunning white silk gown, holding a glass of vintage champagne, chatting politely with a famous French art critic.
“It is unbelievable, Mrs. Gallo,” the critic gushed, gesturing to a massive canvas depicting a stormy sea. “The detail! The light! How do you possess such patience? How do you remain so calm while repairing something so fragile?”
Nora smiled warmly, taking a small sip of her champagne. “It’s quite simple, Monsieur. When you understand how the structure beneath works, repairing it is easy. You just have to know where the pressure points are.”
“Brilliant,” the critic smiled, bowing slightly. “Simply brilliant.”
As the critic walked away, Dominic stepped up behind her.
He wore a dark, perfectly fitted suit, looking powerful and sharp. He wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her gently back against his chest.
“You’re the star of the night, my love,” Dominic whispered into her ear, his deep voice sending a warm shiver down her spine.
“We are the stars of the night, darling,” Nora corrected him softly, leaning her head back against his shoulder.
Through the massive glass windows of the gallery, Frankie and six Gallo guards stood discreetly stationed along the street, keeping watch over the perimeter. The city was quiet. The underworld was silent. The Gallo empire was absolute, stable, and completely untouchable.
Dominic looked at his wife’s reflection in the glass window—the delicate, soft woman who restored priceless masterpieces by day, and the terrifying, brilliant strategist who ruled an empire by night.
“Do you ever miss the quiet life, Nora?” Dominic asked softly. “Just painting in the conservatory?”
Nora turned around in his arms, looking up into his dark, loving eyes. She reached up, gently straightening his silk tie, her fingers warm and tender against his chest.

“This is my quiet life, Dominic,” Nora smiled, her dark eyes shining with love and absolute conviction. “With you.”
Dominic smiled, leaned down, and kissed her deeply right in the center of the gallery, surrounded by priceless art, under the bright lights of the city they now owned together.
