Chapter 6 - The Interrogation of Sterling
While Lily slept peacefully in the guest suite upstairs, Dominic and Marco descended into the subterranean security bunker beneath the estate’s east wing.
Frank Sterling sat tied to a heavy wooden chair beneath a bright overhead light. The former head of Moretti Group HR was sweating profusely, his expensive suit wrinkled, his glasses crooked on his nose.
Dominic walked into the room slowly, pouring himself a glass of ice water from a pitcher on the table.
“Please, Dominic!” Sterling whimpered, cowering as Dominic approached. “I had no choice! Anthony threatened my family! He said he’d throw me off the Jersey docks if I didn't terminate Anna Carter’s employment contract!”
Dominic set the glass down with a heavy clink.
“How long have you been transferring port audit files to Anthony’s private server, Frank?” Dominic asked calmly.
Sterling swallowed hard, his eyes darting frantically toward Marco standing by the reinforced door. “Two... two years.”
“And how much did my uncle pay you to delete Anna’s tax and pension records from the state database?”
“One hundred thousand dollars!” Sterling confessed in a rush of panic. “He gave me fifty thousand upfront and promised the rest when I boarded the flight to Costa Rica tonight! He wanted her erased from the company history so she could never claim her mother’s trust!”
Dominic leaned over Sterling, bringing his face inches from the terrified executive.
“You tried to starve a woman and a six-year-old child out of their home,” Dominic whispered, his gray eyes devoid of any human warmth. “You forged my signature. You betrayed my father’s company.”
“I’m sorry! I’ll testify against Anthony! I’ll sign whatever you want!” Sterling wept.
Dominic stood up, pulling a white linen handkerchief from his pocket and wiping his fingers.
“Marco.”

“Yes, boss?”
“Keep Mr. Sterling comfortable in this room until eight o'clock tomorrow night,” Dominic ordered flatly. “When Anthony arrives for dinner, Frank will be our primary guest of honor.”
