Chapter 10 - The Legacy

Two years later.

The grand courtyard of the Valente estate in the Hamptons was decorated with hundreds of white roses, glowing lanterns, and soft silk ribbons swaying in the gentle June breeze.

Over three hundred guests filled the white wooden chairs set up on the emerald lawn—family bosses, supreme court judges, diplomats, and local community leaders who had come to celebrate a very special occasion.

Standing at the altar under an arch of blooming jasmine stood Lorenzo Valente.

He looked magnificent in a dark navy tuxedo, his hair slightly silvered at the temples, his posture radiating unmatched dignity and peace. Beside him stood Leo, now nine years old, wearing a matching navy suit, holding a small velvet box containing two simple, elegant gold wedding bands.

The string quartet began playing a soft, breathtaking melody.

The crowd stood up in unison.

Walking down the white carpet, wearing a breathtaking gown of pure ivory lace that swept gracefully over the grass, was Aara.

Her hair was styled in soft, cascading curls, adorned with small white flowers. Her face was radiant, glowing with a serene, absolute happiness that lit up the entire courtyard. On her arm walked no politician or mob boss, but Dr. Mercer, the physician who had treated her wounds and become a dear family friend.

As she reached the altar, Lorenzo stepped down to take her hand. His dark eyes were shining with tears he didn't bother to hide.

"You take my breath away," Lorenzo whispered, his voice thick with emotion as he led her up the steps.

"You're not so bad yourself, Don Valente," Aara teased softly, her eyes twinkling with love.

The priest stepped forward, his voice echoing warmly over the quiet gathering.

"Friends, family, and honored guests," the priest began. "Two years ago, a covenant was forged in the dark shadow of violence. But today, we stand in the bright light of love to reaffirm a marriage that was built not on contract, but on sacrifice, bravery, and absolute devotion."

As the vows were exchanged, Aara looked at the guests sitting in the front row.

Marco Valente was sitting quietly, weeping soft tears into a silk handkerchief. Franco stood near the perimeter, smiling proudly with his arms crossed over his tactical vest. And sitting near the back were several former diner regulars from Queens—Aara's old friends whom Lorenzo had flown in on his private jet, their tuition and mortgages fully taken care of by the Valente Foundation.

"Do you, Lorenzo Valente, take Aara to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, in sickness and in health, for richer or for poorer, until death do you part?"

Lorenzo looked into Aara's eyes, his grip on her hand strong, solid, and eternal.

"I do," Lorenzo said, his voice ringing out across the lawn with absolute certainty. "With all my heart, my life, and my blood."

"And do you, Aara Vance-Valente, take Lorenzo to be your lawfully wedded husband?"

Aara smiled, looking down at Leo, who gave her a enthusiastic thumbs-up from beside his father, then looking back up into the dark eyes of the man who had given her a whole new world.

"I do," Aara said softly, her voice carrying the strength of a woman who feared nothing in the world.

"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife," the priest declared with a warm smile. "You may kiss the bride."

Lorenzo didn't hesitate. He pulled Aara close into his arms, lifting her slightly as he kissed her—a deep, passionate, beautiful kiss that drew thunderous applause and cheers from the entire crowd.

Leo threw his arms up in victory, causing the guests to laugh happily.

As the sun began to set over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a warm, golden glow across the estate, Lorenzo held Aara close against his side, watching their friends and family celebrate on the lawn.

"What are you thinking about, my Queen?" Lorenzo asked softly, resting his chin against her hair.

Aara looked down at the simple gold band sitting beside her massive diamond ring, feeling the warmth of his chest against her back, hearing the joyful laughter of their son echoing through the gardens.

"I'm thinking," Aara murmured, leaning her head against his shoulder, "that taking that bullet was the best decision I ever made."

Lorenzo smiled, wrapping his broad arms tightly around her waist, pulling her into the peaceful, unbroken future they had built together.
