Chapter 8 - The Sanctuary

One year and two months after the night I returned from Qatar, the grand garden behind our home was filled with the sweet scent of blooming jasmine, white lilies, and fresh-cut grass.

It was a small, intimate ceremony—no corporate crowds, no superficial socialites, no media cameras.

Just twenty of our closest, truest friends, the medical team who had saved my mother, the legal team who had fought for our justice, and Naomi’s family, whom I had flown in from the Philippines two weeks prior to share in our joy.

My mother sat in the front row, wearing a beautiful lavender silk dress, her eyes shining with pure, unadulterated happiness as she held her carved wooden cane in her lap.

Standing beside me at the altar, beneath a canopy of white roses and green ivy, was Naomi.

She took my breath away. She wore a simple, elegant ivory gown that flowed around her like liquid light. The small, faint scar above her left eyebrow was still there—not hidden by heavy makeup, but worn openly as a mark of supreme honor, a testament to the selfless courage that had saved my family.

As the minister spoke the ancient words of commitment, I took Naomi’s hands in mine. They were warm, strong, and steady.

"Logan," Naomi said, her voice clear and sweet, carrying through the warm spring air as she spoke her vows. "When I stepped into this house two years ago, I thought I was coming to perform a simple job. I did not know that God was sending me to find my true home. You proved to me that honor, strength, and gentle protection still exist in this world. I promise to love you, to stand beside you in every storm, and to build a home with you where light and kindness will never fade."

I looked into her beautiful, dark eyes, feeling a wave of deep, overwhelming peace settle into every corner of my soul.

"Naomi," I said, my voice rich with emotion as I slipped a simple, flawless diamond ring onto her finger. "You entered my life during its darkest hour. You stood as a shield between cruelty and the woman who gave me life. You taught me the true meaning of courage, grace, and love. I promise to honor you, to protect you, to support every dream in your heart, and to spend the rest of my days ensuring you never have to stand alone again."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the minister declared with a warm smile. "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder."

I leaned in and kissed my wife—a sweet, profound kiss that carried all the pain of the past away into the spring sky, leaving only the bright, limitless promise of the future.

The small gathering erupted into joyful applause.

My mother was the first to stand, her hands clapping with bright, energetic enthusiasm, tears of pure joy streaming down her rosy cheeks as she called out her blessings to us.

Later that evening, after the guests had eaten, danced, and departed, the house grew quiet.

Naomi and I walked out onto the rear patio, holding hands in the cool night air. The garden was lit by soft, warm fairy lights hanging from the trees, casting a gentle glow over the quiet sanctuary we had built together.

In the distance, through the lit window of the main suite, we could see my mother sitting comfortably in her armchair, reading a book, perfectly safe, perfectly loved, and completely at peace.

Naomi leaned her head against my shoulder, her arm wrapping around my waist.

"What are you thinking about, Logan?" she whispered, looking up at the stars glittering in the clear night sky.

I pulled her closer to my side, resting my cheek against her soft hair.

"I’m thinking about how an engineer plans his whole life," I said softly, a gentle smile touching my lips. "He builds plans, draws blueprints, and calculates every single detail to keep things safe. But the greatest blessing of my life was the one thing I never planned."

"And what was that?" she asked softly.

"The day I came home early," I whispered, kissing her forehead. "And found the angel who saved my world."

Above us, the night was quiet, clear, and vast—a wide, open horizon stretching out before us, completely free of shadows.
