PART 2 The Alliance Nobody Expected

Adrian Cross stood in silence.

The man who had walked into my life wearing another person’s face.

The man who had spent ten years planning revenge.

The man who believed my family would be his only enemy.

Now looked at me differently.

Not like a victim.

Not like a pawn.

Like a threat.

And strangely…

I found that satisfying.

“Where did you get those documents?”

His voice was calm.

But I noticed the change.

He wasn’t in control anymore.

I placed the folder on the table.

“From Marcus.”

His eyes narrowed.

“My brother?”

I nodded.

“He thought I was too loyal to understand what he was doing.”

A bitter smile crossed my face.

“He was wrong.”

Growing up, everyone believed Marcus was the smart one.

The future leader.

The son my father was proud of.

I was the quiet daughter.

The one who read books.

The one who asked questions.

The one who noticed details.

And that was exactly why they ignored me.

People reveal secrets around people they underestimate.

Three years ago, Marcus came to my room drunk.

He was panicking.

For the first time in my life, I saw fear in his eyes.

He thought my father would kill him.

Because the company money was gone.

Not invested.

Not lost.

Gone.

Marcus had moved it.

Transferred it.

Hidden it.

And when he realized the numbers didn’t add up anymore…

He needed someone to blame.

“Help me fix this,” he begged.

I looked at the documents.

At the accounts.

At the missing millions.

And I knew.

I knew exactly what he had done.

“You stole from your own family.”

He became angry.

“No.”

His voice changed.

“I borrowed it.”

That was the beginning.

The moment I understood that my family was built on lies.

I copied everything.

Every file.

Every transaction.

Every false signature.

Then I waited.

Because I didn’t have power.

Not yet.

I needed proof.

I needed time.

I needed a way out.

And now…

Adrian had given me one.

“Why didn’t you expose them?”

Adrian asked.

I looked at him.

“Because I knew nobody would believe me.”

The truth hurt.

“My father controlled everything.”

“Marcus had friends everywhere.”

“My mother cared more about reputation than reality.”

A pause.

“And I was just their daughter.”

Adrian walked toward the window.

The city lights reflected in the glass.

For the first time, he looked tired.

Not angry.

Not dangerous.

Just tired.

“Ten years.”

I watched him.

“What?”

“Ten years planning this.”

His voice lowered.

“I thought revenge would fix everything.”

I said nothing.

“Now I’m not sure.”

That surprised me.

I expected a monster.

A man consumed by hatred.

But behind the revenge…

There was pain.

The same kind of pain I knew.

The pain of being betrayed by family.

“You still want revenge?”

I asked.

He turned.

“Yes.”

No hesitation.

“But not the way I planned.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“What does that mean?”

He looked at the folder.

“It means your family didn’t just destroy mine.”

“They destroyed you too.”

The next morning, my family discovered I was not coming back.

My father called first.

I ignored him.

Then my mother.

Then Marcus.

Twenty-three missed calls.

Thirty-seven messages.

Finally, one message appeared.

Evelyn, stop playing games. Come home. We need to discuss your husband.

My husband.

That was all they cared about.

Not me.

Not my safety.

Not whether I was okay.

Only the deal.

I showed Adrian the message.

He laughed.

“They really don’t know you.”

“No.”

I looked at the screen.

“They never tried.”

The first move was simple.

We froze the assets connected to the contract.

The money Adrian gave my family was no longer accessible.

The mansion my father thought he controlled?

Frozen.

The company accounts?

Under investigation.

The emergency funds Marcus planned to use?

Gone.

By noon, my father arrived.

Not as a powerful businessman.

As a desperate man.

He stood outside Adrian’s mansion.

Demanding to see me.

The security cameras showed him pacing.

Angry.

Afraid.

Adrian watched beside me.

“You can still choose.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

“Walk away.”

I frowned.

“You’re saying that?”

He shrugged.

“I know what revenge costs.”

For the first time, I saw the scar beneath his anger.

I went outside.

My father looked relieved when he saw me.

“Evelyn.”

He stepped forward.

“You don’t understand what’s happening.”

I almost laughed.

“No?”

He softened his voice.

“Your husband is manipulating you.”

I stared at him.

The irony was almost unbelievable.

“You sold me to him.”

His face changed.

“That’s not what happened.”

I looked at him.

“Really?”

“You told me to smile while you traded my life.”

Silence.

He looked away.

And that was the moment I knew.

He had no excuse.

Only shame.

“I did what I had to do.”

Those words.

The same words everyone uses when they hurt someone.

I shook my head.

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“You did what benefited you.”

My father left.

But not before saying:

“You will regret this.”

I watched him walk away.

Maybe I would.

Maybe revenge always leaves scars.

But I knew one thing.

I would regret staying silent more.

That night, Adrian showed me another file.

Something I didn’t know existed.

“What is this?”

He hesitated.

“Evidence about your brother.”

I opened it.

My hands froze.

Because inside…

Was proof Marcus wasn’t only stealing money.

He had done something worse.

Something connected to Adrian’s family.

Something that explained why Adrian’s father died.

I looked at Adrian.

“How long have you known?”

“Years.”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

His eyes darkened.

“Because I needed to know if you were like them.”

The words hurt.

“Like them?”

He nodded.

“Someone who would protect family no matter what.”

I closed the file.

“And?”

He looked at me.

“You’re not.”

The next morning, everything changed.

Because the truth we found was bigger than revenge.

Bigger than money.

Bigger than my family.

May you like

And when the world learned what Marcus had done…

The Hart name would never recover.
