PART 2 — The Babysitter Who Noticed

“Noah,” Daniel said sharply.

The boy flinched.

That hurt Daniel more than he expected.

His son wasn’t afraid of pain.

He was afraid of not being believed.

“Enough,” Daniel said.

That single word broke something in Noah.

His shoulders dropped.

His tears continued silently.

Then a voice came from the doorway.

“Mr. Vale.”

Everyone turned.

Evelyn Hart stood there.

The new babysitter.

Only twenty-eight years old.

She had worked for the family for two weeks.

And Marissa hated her from the beginning.

Because Evelyn noticed things.

Things other people ignored.

The way Noah became quiet when Marissa entered the room.

The way he covered his arm when she came close.

The way his smiles disappeared.

“You’re paid to watch him,” Marissa said coldly.

“Not to make medical accusations.”

Evelyn didn’t look at her.

She looked at Noah.

A child begging someone to remove a cast was not normal.

A child terrified of his own injury was not normal.

“Let me see his arm.”

Daniel shook his head.

“The doctor said the cast stays on.”

Evelyn nodded.

“And the doctor also said there was no wound.”

She stepped closer.

“Removing it carefully won’t hurt him.”

Marissa’s eyes narrowed.

“Touch that cast without permission and I will call the police.”

For the first time, Evelyn looked at her.

Calm.

Unshaken.

Then she opened her bag.

Daniel frowned.

“What are you doing?”

Evelyn pulled out a medical cutter.

The room changed instantly.

“Why do you have that?”

Her answer was simple.

“Because I used to be a pediatric trauma nurse.”

Marissa’s perfect expression cracked.

May you like

Only slightly.

But Evelyn noticed.
