Part 6: The Secret Hidden Inside Me

For a moment…

I forgot how to breathe.

The room went silent.

Even the alarms seemed distant.

My father stared at the stranger.

Not at me.

At him.

And that terrified me more.

Because my father always looked like he had an answer.

Always.

But now…

He looked like a man whose worst nightmare had finally arrived.

“What did you say?” I whispered.

The stranger smiled.

“You heard me.”

My hands started shaking.

“What I am?”

He stepped closer.

My father immediately moved between us.

“Don’t listen to him.”

The stranger laughed.

“Still protecting her.”

Then his eyes returned to me.

“Your whole life, you believed you were just Isabella Bennett.”

He tilted his head.

“The daughter of a wealthy businessman.”

“The girl who lost her mother.”

“The woman who married the wrong man.”

A pause.

“But that’s not the truth.”

I looked at my father.

“Dad.”

My voice was quiet.

“What is he talking about?”

He didn’t answer.

That was the answer.

My heart broke.

Again.

“Tell me.”

My father closed his eyes.

“I wanted you to have a normal life.”

I stepped back.

“There is no normal life.”

“Not anymore.”

The stranger walked around the room slowly.

His confidence was unbearable.

“Your father spent years hiding your identity.”

“Why?”

He smiled.

“Because you are the only person who can unlock what your mother found.”

Victor’s expression changed.

Even he looked surprised.

“What are you talking about?”

The stranger ignored him.

I stared.

“What did my mother find?”

My father whispered:

“Enough.”

The stranger laughed.

“No.”

“Not enough.”

“Not anymore.”

He looked at me.

“She discovered the original documents.”

My forehead tightened.

“What documents?”

“The foundation of everything.”

“The money.”

“The companies.”

“The empire.”

I shook my head.

“That doesn’t explain me.”

The stranger’s smile faded.

“It does.”

My mother’s voice came from the phone.

“Isabella…”

I pressed it to my ear.

“Mom, tell me.”

Silence.

Then:

“Your father didn’t create the company.”

My eyes moved toward him.

“He inherited it.”

My father looked away.

My mother continued.

“And the person who built it…”

She hesitated.

“Was your grandfather.”

I frowned.

“My grandfather?”

I barely remembered him.

He died when I was young.

Everyone told me he was a successful businessman.

A generous man.

A family man.

But now…

Every person I trusted seemed connected to a lie.

“What about him?”

My mother whispered:

“He wasn’t the man everyone believed.”

The stranger smiled.

“Your grandfather built an empire using information.”

“Secrets.”

“Leverage.”

“People’s weaknesses.”

I felt sick.

“So?”

“So he created a system.”

The stranger looked at me.

“A system that could control powerful families.”

My father interrupted.

“That’s enough.”

The stranger ignored him.

“And before he died, he hid the final key.”

My stomach tightened.

“Where?”

The stranger pointed at me.

“Inside you.”

I almost laughed.

Because it was impossible.

“You’re insane.”

But the stranger didn’t look insane.

He looked certain.

“Your grandfather knew people would fight over the empire.”

“So he made sure no one could claim it.”

My father’s face went pale.

“Stop.”

The stranger continued.

“He created a final safeguard.”

“A living password.”

I stared.

“No.”

My father whispered:

“Isabella…”

I looked at him.

“Is it true?”

He didn’t answer.

And I knew.

The pain I felt was not from Adrian.

Not anymore.

Adrian hurt my body.

But my family…

They had rewritten my entire existence.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

My father’s eyes filled.

“Because you were my daughter.”

“That was the one thing I wanted to be true.”

I shook my head.

“You let me believe I was ordinary.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

His voice broke.

“Because every person who knew what you were became a target.”

A pause.

“Your mother.”

“Me.”

“And eventually…”

His eyes met mine.

“You.”

Suddenly, Victor moved.

Fast.

He grabbed the folder.

Everyone turned.

“My father’s work doesn’t belong to you.”

The stranger looked annoyed.

“You still think this is about ownership?”

Victor backed toward the door.

“This information is worth billions.”

My father looked at him.

“You still don’t understand.”

Victor froze.

“What?”

My father said quietly:

“The information was never the treasure.”

A pause.

“The destruction of it was.”

Victor’s face changed.

“No.”

My father nodded.

“My father built a machine that could destroy anyone.”

“But Isabella was never the key to control it.”

“She was the key to erase it.”

The stranger went silent.

For the first time…

He looked afraid.

A loud crash came from outside.

More vehicles.

More people.

The estate was surrounded.

The stranger looked toward the windows.

Then back at me.

“This isn’t finished.”

I looked at him.

For the first time…

I wasn’t afraid.

“You’re right.”

I stepped forward.

“It’s not finished.”

“Because now I know.”

My father looked at me.

And I said the words I never thought I would say:

“Show me everything.”

That night, the last hidden room beneath the estate was opened.

A room nobody had entered for decades.

Inside were hundreds of files.

Photographs.

Recordings.

Contracts.

Secrets.

The entire history of my family.

And in the center…

A small wooden box.

My name written on it.

My hands trembled as I opened it.

Inside was a letter.

From my grandfather.

The first line made my blood run cold.

Isabella,

If you are reading this, then everyone I feared was right.

I turned the page.

The next sentence destroyed me:

They will tell you I created this empire for power.

They are wrong.

May you like

I created it because I knew one day…

someone would try to take it from you.
