Part 3

The heart monitor suddenly changed.

A sharp alarm filled the hallway.

Doctors rushed around Emma’s bed.

“Her pressure is crashing!”

“Move!”

The door slammed shut.

I stood there frozen.

The same man who had negotiated million-dollar deals.

The man who made enemies disappear.

The man everyone feared.

I couldn’t do anything.

I couldn’t threaten the machine.

I couldn’t force her body to keep fighting.

For the first time in years, I was powerless.

And I hated it.

“Vincent,” Brooke whispered.

I turned toward her.

She looked nervous.

Not worried.

Nervous.

There was a difference.

“You need to leave,” she said.

I stared at her.

“Leave?”

“This is a hospital. You’re emotional.”

I stepped closer.

“No.”

My voice was cold.

“You’re afraid.”

Her face changed.

“You’re imagining things.”

“Am I?”

I pulled out my phone.

I called my private investigator.

“Find everything.”

A pause.

“Everything about Emma’s accident. Everything about Brooke. Every message, every payment, every person involved.”

Brooke heard.

Her eyes widened.

“Vincent, don’t do this.”

I looked back through the glass at Emma.

My Emma.

The woman who nearly died while I believed she was my enemy.

“I already did.”

Seconds later, my investigator sent the first message.

One name.

One location.

One payment record.

My blood turned cold.

Brooke had been meeting someone.

Someone connected to the attack.

And there was video.

A security camera.

From the night Emma disappeared.

I opened the file.

And what I saw destroyed the last piece of trust I had left.

Because Emma hadn’t betrayed me.

She had been running from someone else.

May you like

Someone Brooke knew.

Someone Brooke helped.
