Part 4

I watched the video again.
And again.
Emma leaving my building.
Not secretly.
Not meeting an agent.
Running.
Terrified.
Behind her was a black vehicle.
The same vehicle that had been spotted near her accident.
Then the footage showed something worse.
Brooke.
Standing outside.
Talking to the driver.
My hands tightened around the phone.
The woman beside me had not saved me.
She had destroyed my family.
“Vincent…”
Brooke’s voice trembled.
I looked at her.
For years, people feared my anger.
But Brooke had never seen what happened when someone hurt the person I loved.
“You lied to me.”
She shook her head.
“I did it because I loved you.”
“No.”
I stepped closer.
“You did it because you wanted what belonged to Emma.”
Her face turned pale.
The hospital doors opened.
A doctor walked out.
Everyone became silent.
I moved instantly.
“How is she?”
The doctor looked serious.
“She survived the surgery.”
I closed my eyes for the first time all night.
A breath escaped me.
“And the baby?”
The doctor hesitated.
Then smiled slightly.
“The baby is alive.”
My knees almost gave out.
My child.
Alive.
But the doctor wasn’t finished.
“However, Emma hasn’t woken up yet.”
I looked through the glass.
She was lying there.
Fragile.
Alone.
Because of me.
I walked into the room slowly.
For once, I didn’t walk like a king.
I walked like a man who had lost everything.
I sat beside her bed.
Held her hand carefully.
And whispered:
“Emma…”
My voice broke.
“I’m sorry.”
Her fingers moved slightly.
Barely.
But enough.
Her eyes opened.
Weak.
Tired.
But awake.
She looked at me.
And after everything…
After all the pain…
She whispered:
“Vincent…”
I leaned closer.
“I’m here.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You should have believed me.”
Those words hurt more than anything.
Because she was right.
I had spent my whole life controlling enemies.
But I never saw the betrayal happening right beside me.
And now I had only one mission left.
Protect Emma.
May you like
Protect my child.
And make everyone responsible pay.
