Chapter 6 - The King Returns

Everett walked over to the desk, picked up the forged death certificate, and casually tore it into tiny pieces, letting them flutter down onto Whitfield's head like cheap confetti.

"Call District Attorney Vance," Everett commanded his chief of security without turning around. "Tell him I have a high-profile confession regarding medical corruption, illegal detainment, and attempted murder. Give him Whitfield."

"No! Please!" Whitfield sobbed as two tactical guards dragged him toward the exit. "I'll testify against Sterling! I'll tell you everything!"

"You certainly will," Everett replied coldly.

Then, Everett turned his gaze onto Sterling. The younger brother was hyperventilating, his eyes darting frantically around the room for an escape route that did not exist.

"As for you, brother," Everett said softly, leaning down until he was nose-to-nose with Sterling. "You thought you could take my crown while I was sleeping. But you forgot one thing about this family."

Everett reached down, grabbed Sterling by his silk tie, and pulled him up off his feet with terrifying strength.

"We don't die easily," Everett whispered into his ear. "And we never forgive a traitor."

Everett didn't shoot him. He didn't have to. With a simple nod, his men hauled Sterling away to be handed over to the syndicate's tribunal—a fate far worse than any prison sentence Sterling could ever serve.
