PART 3 — The Man Who Hid The Truth

The room went silent.
Not the kind of silence that came from surprise.
The kind that came from fear.
Because everyone heard what the lawyer said.
The security system identified the person.
Victor Mercer.
Alexander’s father.
The man who built the family empire.
The man who taught Alexander how to win.
The man everyone respected.
The same man who had just been accused of trying to access Sophia’s private files.
Alexander stared at him.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Because a part of him refused to believe it.
His father?
The man who raised him?
The man who stood beside him when he built Mercer Industries?
Impossible.
“Explain.”
Alexander’s voice was quiet.
But everyone heard the warning underneath.
Victor remained calm.
Too calm.
“You are making a mistake.”
Alexander took one step forward.
“Are you?”
Victor looked around the room.
At the guests.
At the employees.
At the people watching.
“You’re embarrassing this family over a dead woman’s emotional letter.”
The words made Elena move closer to Clara.
Because even at six years old…
she understood something.
This man didn’t care about feelings.
Only control.
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
“My wife was not emotional.”
Victor smiled slightly.
“She always was.”
That was the moment something inside Alexander broke.
Because Sophia had spent her whole life being underestimated.
By people like Victor.
And maybe…
by him.
“You don’t get to talk about her like that.”
Victor looked at his son.
“Really?”
A cold laugh escaped him.
“After everything I did for you?”
Alexander stared.
“What did you do?”
The older man’s expression changed.
“I built you.”
“No.”
Alexander shook his head.
“Sophia helped me build my life.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
“She made you weak.”
The words shocked everyone.
Alexander looked at him.
“What?”
“She distracted you.”
Victor pointed toward Elena.
“First with emotions.”
“Then with family.”
“Now look at you.”
He shook his head.
“A billionaire standing in a ballroom defending a maid.”
Nobody spoke.
But Alexander finally understood.
His father never saw love as strength.
Only as a weakness.
Clara stepped forward.
“Mr. Mercer…”
Alexander looked at her.
“Yes?”
“I think there’s more.”
Victor immediately turned.
“Stay out of this.”
Clara flinched.
But Elena grabbed her hand.
“She helped me.”
Alexander looked at Victor.
Then at Clara.
“What do you know?”
Clara took a breath.
“I found something after Mrs. Mercer died.”
Everyone turned.
“Found what?”
Clara looked nervous.
“A hidden room.”
Alexander frowned.
“A room?”
“In the old study.”
Victor’s face changed.
Only slightly.
But Alexander saw it.
“You knew about it?”
Victor didn’t answer.
That was answer enough.
Alexander’s voice became colder.
“Take me there.”
Victor stepped forward.
“This is unnecessary.”
“No.”
Alexander looked at him.
“This is happening.”
The guests watched as the entire celebration changed.
The banquet that was supposed to honor Alexander’s success…
became the night his family secrets were exposed.
The old study was on the second floor.
A room nobody entered anymore.
Not since Sophia died.
Alexander walked through the doorway slowly.
The memories hit him immediately.
Her books.
Her chair.
The small vase she always kept by the window.
Everything was still there.
Like she had just left.
Elena held Clara’s hand.
“Mommy liked this room.”
Alexander nodded.
“I know.”
His voice cracked.
“She loved reading here.”
Clara walked toward the bookshelf.
“She showed me this place once.”
Alexander looked surprised.
“She did?”
Clara nodded.
“She told me if anything happened…”
She paused.
“She said someone needed to know where she kept the truth.”
Alexander froze.
“The truth about what?”
Clara pointed.
A small wooden box sat behind the books.
Hidden.
Almost invisible.
Alexander opened it.
Inside were documents.
Photographs.
A small recorder.
And a sealed envelope.
The name on it made his heart stop.
Alexander.
He opened it.
Sophia’s voice filled the room.
A recording.
Not a letter.
Her actual voice.
Alexander covered his mouth.
Because for two years…
he hadn’t heard her.
“Alexander.”
Her voice was soft.
Tired.
But clear.
“If you’re listening to this, then I’m gone.”
His eyes filled.
“I wish I could have told you everything myself.”
A pause.
“But I was afraid.”
Alexander looked at the recorder.
Sophia afraid?
That was impossible.
She was the strongest person he knew.
The recording continued.
“Your father knows about the company accounts.”
Alexander froze.
Clara looked at him.
“I discovered irregular transfers.”
Sophia continued.
“Money was being moved without permission.”
Alexander’s face hardened.
“Victor.”
The recording continued.
“I confronted him.”
A pause.
“And he threatened me.”
Everyone became silent.
Sophia’s voice shook slightly.
“He told me if I spoke…”
“He would make sure I lost everything.”
Alexander closed his eyes.
Because now he remembered.
The arguments.
The tension.
The strange conversations between Sophia and Victor.
He ignored them.
He thought it was family conflict.
He thought it would pass.
He was wrong.
Then Sophia said something that made his blood run cold.
“He was not alone.”
Alexander opened his eyes.
“What?”
The recording continued.
“Someone inside the company was helping him.”
“Someone close.”
Someone close.
The words echoed.
Alexander looked at the documents.
The financial records.
The names.
Then he saw it.
A signature.
His own brother’s name.
A person he trusted.
A person who had worked beside him for years.
Daniel Mercer.
His younger brother.
Alexander stepped back.
“No.”
Victor’s face went pale.
“You weren’t supposed to find that.”
Everyone turned.
Alexander slowly looked at him.
“You knew.”
Victor said nothing.
“You knew all this time.”
Victor’s expression hardened.
“You don’t understand.”
Alexander laughed.
A broken laugh.
“You tried to hide my wife’s truth.”
“I tried to protect this family.”
“No.”
Alexander shook his head.
“You protected yourself.”
Then the study lights suddenly went off.
Everyone froze.
A second later…
the sound of breaking glass came from downstairs.
Clara grabbed Elena.
Alexander moved immediately.
“Stay behind me.”
Security rushed into the hallway.
Then a guard shouted:
“Sir!”
Alexander turned.
“What?”
The guard looked terrified.
“The front gates are open.”
Alexander’s blood ran cold.
“Impossible.”
The guard swallowed.
“The security code was overridden.”
A pause.
“By someone with family access.”
Everyone looked at Victor.
But Victor was looking at his phone.
And smiling.
For the first time that night…
he looked confident.
Alexander noticed.
“Who are you talking to?”
Victor didn’t answer.
Then a message notification appeared on Victor’s screen.
Alexander saw the name.
And his entire body went cold.
Daniel.
Victor’s son.
Alexander’s brother.
The person who had been missing from the banquet.
The person nobody questioned.
The person who was supposed to be on a business trip.
Victor looked up.
“It’s already too late.”
Alexander stepped closer.
“What did you do?”
Victor smiled.
“The truth was never meant to come out.”
Then the mansion doors opened.
And a man walked inside.
Daniel Mercer.
May you like
Holding a folder.
And a gun.
