Part 8: The Truth About Lily

Part 8: The Truth About Lily

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Because the impossible was standing in front of them.

Daniel Bennett.

Alive.

Not on a medical bed.

Not hidden behind machines.

Standing.

Walking.

Breathing.

The man everyone believed was dead.

The man Sarah had spent years searching for.

The man Ethan had cried for.

The man Lily had never known.

He stood in the hallway.

But something was wrong.

Arthur saw it immediately.

Daniel wasn’t looking at Jonathan.

He wasn’t looking at the guards.

He wasn’t even looking at Sarah’s direction.

He was looking at Lily.

And his face wasn’t filled with relief.

It was fear.

Real fear.

Ethan stepped forward.

“Dad?”

Daniel froze.

That one word changed his expression.

Pain crossed his face.

Because he recognized him.

Even after years.

Even after everything.

“Ethan…”

The boy’s eyes filled.

“It’s really you?”

Daniel opened his mouth.

But no words came.

The distance between them was only a few steps.

But it felt like years.

Because it was.

Ethan had spent years believing he would never see his father again.

And now he was here.

Alive.

But afraid of his own daughter.

Arthur watched quietly.

Something about this reunion felt wrong.

A father should run to his child.

A father should hold him.

A father should cry.

But Daniel stayed where he was.

Jonathan smiled.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?”

Arthur turned.

“You caused all of this.”

Jonathan shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at Daniel.

“He did.”

Everyone looked at Daniel.

The boy’s hope disappeared.

“Dad?”

Daniel closed his eyes.

“I’m sorry.”

Ethan stepped back.

“No.”

His voice cracked.

“You don’t get to say that.”

Daniel looked broken.

“I tried to protect you.”

“By leaving us?”

“I had no choice.”

The anger in Ethan’s face hurt more than any scream.

“You weren’t there.”

A pause.

“Mom was.”

Daniel lowered his head.

“I know.”

“And she disappeared.”

“I know.”

“And Lily…”

Ethan looked at the baby.

“She doesn’t even know you.”

Daniel couldn’t answer.

Because every word was true.

Arthur stepped forward.

“Enough.”

Everyone looked at him.

He looked at Daniel.

“Explain.”

Daniel stared at him.

“You don’t understand.”

Arthur’s voice became colder.

“Then make me understand.”

Daniel looked at Jonathan.

“He’s not the one you should fear.”

Jonathan laughed.

“Still protecting them.”

Arthur frowned.

“Who?”

Daniel looked at Lily.

And whispered:

“Her.”

The room went silent.

Ethan immediately pulled Lily closer.

“No.”

Daniel looked devastated.

“I’m not saying she’s dangerous.”

A pause.

“I’m saying we don’t understand what she is.”

Arthur watched him carefully.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel swallowed.

“When Sarah and I discovered the research, we thought Lily was the cure.”

Arthur listened.

“She was created from years of experiments.”

Daniel’s voice shook.

“But we were wrong.”

Jonathan smiled.

“Finally.”

Arthur looked at him.

“You knew?”

Jonathan nodded.

“Of course.”

Daniel continued.

“Lily wasn’t the goal.”

Everyone froze.

“Then what was?”

Daniel looked at Arthur.

“Her cells.”

A chill moved through the room.

“They wanted to understand why her body could repair damage.”

“And?”

Daniel looked down.

“They discovered something.”

“What?”

Daniel whispered:

“Lily doesn’t heal randomly.”

A pause.

“She responds to the person.”

Arthur frowned.

“What do you mean?”

Daniel looked at him.

“She doesn’t just touch the body.”

“She connects with it.”

Arthur remembered the memory.

The white room.

The woman crying.

The feeling.

A flash.

A memory that wasn’t his.

“You mean…”

Daniel nodded.

“She shares memories.”

Silence.

Arthur looked at Lily.

The baby who had shown him Jonathan.

The baby who had revealed Sarah.

“She showed me the past.”

Daniel nodded.

“Yes.”

Ethan looked confused.

“Why?”

Daniel looked at him.

“Because she trusted you.”

A pause.

“She only shows memories to people she feels safe with.”

Arthur looked away.

That hit him harder than expected.

A baby.

A child.

Trusted him.

A stranger.

More than the adults who were supposed to protect her.

Jonathan stepped forward.

“Enough emotional nonsense.”

He looked at Lily.

“She is a breakthrough.”

Arthur turned.

“She is a child.”

Jonathan ignored him.

“With her ability, we can repair diseases.”

“Restore damaged organs.”

“Reverse aging.”

Arthur stared.

“And how many children die while you try?”

Jonathan’s face hardened.

“Some sacrifices are necessary.”

Arthur’s disgust was obvious.

“No.”

Jonathan looked at him.

“You think morality matters?”

A pause.

“You built your empire by taking risks.”

Arthur stepped closer.

“I built companies.”

Jonathan smiled.

“You built them on research.”

Arthur froze.

Because he knew.

Some of his early investments.

Medical programs.

Experimental treatments.

Projects he never personally reviewed.

Could Jonathan have hidden everything inside them?

Arthur’s silence was enough.

Jonathan saw it.

“You didn’t know.”

A pause.

“You were too busy becoming a legend.”

The words hurt because they were true.

Arthur had trusted others.

And people had used that trust.

Daniel looked at Arthur.

“Don’t listen to him.”

Arthur turned.

“Then tell me the truth.”

Daniel was silent.

“Did my company fund this?”

Daniel hesitated.

That was answer enough.

Arthur closed his eyes.

Another betrayal.

Another secret.

But before he could speak…

A small sound came from Lily.

Everyone turned.

The baby was crying.

Not normally.

Like she was scared.

Her tiny hand reached toward Daniel.

Daniel froze.

“Lily?”

The baby reached again.

Daniel slowly stepped forward.

Jonathan immediately moved.

“Stop.”

Everyone looked at him.

Jonathan’s expression had changed.

Fear.

Not anger.

Fear.

Arthur noticed.

“What are you afraid of?”

Jonathan didn’t answer.

Daniel stepped closer.

The baby’s hand touched his finger.

Instantly—

Daniel collapsed.

Everyone panicked.

“Dad!”

Ethan ran forward.

Arthur moved.

But Daniel wasn’t injured.

He was seeing something.

A memory.

His eyes opened wide.

Tears appeared.

“No…”

Arthur looked at him.

“What did you see?”

Daniel couldn’t speak.

Then he whispered:

“She knows.”

Arthur frowned.

“Knows what?”

Daniel looked at Jonathan.

And his face turned pale.

“She knows who really created her.”

The room went silent.

Jonathan stepped back.

For the first time…

He looked afraid.

Daniel pointed at him.

“You lied.”

Jonathan’s expression changed.

Daniel continued:

“You didn’t create Lily.”

A pause.

“You found her.”

Everyone froze.

Arthur stared.

“What?”

Daniel looked at Lily.

And whispered the truth:

“Lily wasn’t the experiment.”

“She was the first child.”

“The original.”

The lights suddenly went out.

A scream came from deeper inside the facility.

Sarah.

Alive.

Calling out:

“Arthur!”

“Get Lily out!”

Then another voice came through the speakers.

A voice nobody expected.

A child’s voice.

A recording.

A little girl.

Saying:

“Please stop hurting my sisters.”

Everyone froze.

Because the voice sounded exactly like Lily.

But older.

Much older.

And Jonathan whispered:

May you like

“No…”

“She remembers everything.”
