Part 4

While Daniel was drinking cocktails under the sunset, I made one phone call.
Not to him.
Not to Vivian.
To someone from my past.
My former law partner.
The person who knew exactly what I was capable of.
When he answered, he immediately heard my voice.
“Grace?”
“Yes.”
A pause.
Then he asked:
“What happened?”
I looked through the hospital window at Noah sleeping under the soft glow of the machines.
My baby.
My reason.
“Daniel left us,” I said quietly.
The silence on the other end was heavy.
“With another woman.”
Another pause.
“And now he’s pretending nothing happened.”
My former partner didn’t ask questions.
He already understood.
“What do you need?”
I looked down at the folder of medical records beside me.
The photos.
The saved posts.
The timeline.
Everything.
“I need everything documented.”
“Grace…”
His voice softened.
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
I looked at my son.
The little boy Daniel abandoned.
The child who deserved better.
“Yes,” I whispered.
“I’m done protecting people who never protected us.”
Outside the hospital room, Vivian continued telling everyone that I was emotional.
That I was unstable.
That I would eventually forgive Daniel.

She was wrong.
Because while they were busy underestimating me…
I was rebuilding my life.

And this time, I wasn’t coming back as Daniel’s wife.
I was coming back as the woman he forgot I was.
