Chapter 10 - The Unspoken

That evening, thirty thousand feet above the Atlantic coastline, the Gulfstream jet glided smoothly through the clear twilight sky.
Inside the luxury cabin, the ambient lighting was soft and warm.
Dominic and Maeve sat opposite each other at a wide dining table, finished reviewing the final Miami operational dossiers, two empty dinner plates resting between them.
Outside the window, the sun was setting over the western horizon, painting the clouds in brilliant shades of gold, deep orange, and soft violet.
Dominic set his pen down and looked across the table at Maeve.
Over the past six months, their relationship had evolved far beyond that of a mob boss and his security consultant. They were partners in every sense of the word—equals who built an empire of intelligence that had rendered the Rossi family completely untouchable across North America.
"What are you thinking about?" Dominic asked softly, reaching across the table to lay his fingers over hers.
Maeve looked out at the golden sunset, then turned her eyes to meet his.
"I was thinking about my mother," Maeve said quietly, her voice full of a soft, gentle warmth. "She used to tell me that words were like water. If you don't know how to swim, they drown you. But if you learn how to control the current, you can build an ocean."
Dominic squeezed her hand gently, his dark eyes filled with a deep, unshakeable affection. "She raised a remarkable daughter."
"She raised a daughter who survived," Maeve corrected softly. Then she looked at him with a small, playful smile. "And who made sure a stubborn Sicilian mob boss didn't get himself killed in a boardroom."
Dominic let out a soft laugh, leaning forward across the table. "You know, Maeve... in all the six months we've worked together, there's still one language I haven't heard you translate."
Maeve raised an eyebrow, her heart beating a little faster against her ribs. "Oh? And what language is that?"
Dominic didn't answer with words.
He stood up, walked around the small dining table, and extended his hand to her. Maeve took it, standing up slowly to face him in the soft, golden light of the cabin.
Dominic reached up, his large, warm hand gently cupping the side of her face, his thumb softly tracing the line of her cheekbone. He looked deep into her silver-gray eyes—eyes that had seen so much pain, so much danger, and so much silence—and leaned down, pressing his lips gently against hers.
The kiss was slow, warm, and deeply reverent—a quiet promise spoken without a single sound.
When he pulled back slightly, his forehead resting against hers, Dominic whispered softly in old, poetic Sicilian:
“Tu si a me vita, Maeve.”
Maeve closed her eyes, a breathtaking, radiant smile breaking across her lips.
She didn't need to translate it.

She understood every single word.
She wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him closer as the jet carried them high above the dark clouds, into a future where she was no longer invisible, no longer afraid, and never again alone in the quiet dark.
