PART 2 The Moment I Realized My Husband Was Never On My Side

I was making coffee when I heard the scream.

Not a normal scream.

A scream filled with fear.

“Please!”

It was my mother.

I dropped everything and ran upstairs.

The door was open.

And what I saw stopped me.

Isolde stood beside my father’s memorial.

The candle was on the floor.

The picture frame was tilted.

My mother was crying.

“Please,” she begged.

“Today is the third day.”

Isolde looked disgusted.

“This is exactly what I mean.”

She pointed at the room.

“You brought sadness into this house.”

My mother reached for the candle.

“I only wanted to remember him.”

Isolde kicked the candle away.

“You don’t understand.”

Then she grabbed the urn.

My heart stopped.

“No.”

I stepped forward.

“Put that down.”

She looked at me.

And smiled.

A cold smile.

“Why?”

“He’s already dead.”

My mother stood up.

“No…”

Her voice broke.

“That’s my husband.”

But Isolde didn’t care.

She walked toward the bathroom.

And behind me…

Tristan appeared.

I turned to him.

“Stop her.”

He looked at his mother.

Then at me.

“Grace…”

I couldn’t believe it.

“You’re just going to let this happen?”

He sighed.

“Mom is trying to clean the house.”

The sentence destroyed something inside me.

Not because he agreed with her.

Because he said it so casually.

Like my father’s ashes were trash.

Like my mother’s grief was dirt.

I moved forward.

But Tristan grabbed my arm.

“Let it go.”

I stared at him.

“Let it go?”

“Yes.”

His voice was cold.

“You’re making this bigger than it is.”

Then Isolde opened the urn.

My mother screamed.

“No!”

And before I could reach her—

She poured my father’s ashes into the toilet.

The world stopped.

I couldn’t hear anything.

Not my mother crying.

Not Tristan breathing.

Nothing.

Then Isolde pressed the handle.

The water moved.

And my father disappeared.

The last piece of him.

Gone.

My mother collapsed.

I stood frozen.

And finally Isolde said:

“There.”

She washed her hands.

“Now we can eat peacefully.”

That was the moment I stopped being a wife.

I became something else.

Someone who understood that love without respect is nothing.
