PART 3 The Secret Hidden Behind My Father’s Death

That night, nobody slept.

My mother cried quietly in the guest room.

And Tristan acted like nothing happened.

He sat on the couch answering emails.

Drinking coffee.

Living normally.

I watched him.

The man I married.

The man I defended.

The man I trusted.

And I wondered:

Who was he?

Because the person sitting there wasn’t the man I knew.

At midnight, I went into my father’s old storage box.

My mother had saved everything.

Letters.

Documents.

Photos.

And then I found something strange.

A small envelope.

With my name on it.

Grace.

My hands shook.

Inside was a letter from my father.

I opened it.

And the first sentence changed everything.

“My daughter, if anything happens to me, do not trust Tristan or his family.”

I stopped breathing.

I read faster.

My father had discovered something before his death.

Something about my husband.

Something about my father’s company.

Something about the fire.

He wrote:

“They don’t want the house.”

“They want what is hidden beneath it.”

I stared at the words.

Hidden?

My father continued.

“The old property records are not in the safe.”

“They are somewhere they will never look.”

Then I remembered.

The basement.

The old workshop.

The place my father always locked.

I went downstairs.

The house was silent.

Too silent.

I opened the old door.

Inside was dust.

Tools.

Boxes.

And behind the wall…

A loose panel.

I removed it.

Inside was a hidden safe.

My hands trembled as I opened it.

Inside were documents.

Bank records.

Property deeds.

And one folder.

The title:

TRISTAN VALE.

My husband’s name.

I opened it.

And what I saw made my blood turn cold.

Tristan had been secretly trying to take control of my father’s assets.

My father knew.

He had been investigating him.

Then I found the final document.

The fire report.

It wasn’t an accident.

Someone had tampered with the wiring.

Someone had started it.
