Chapter 4 - The Price of Arrogance

The dining hall became a theater of consequences. Damien didn't scream; he didn't have to. He simply sat beside Maren on the floor, his presence a dark, suffocating weight. He signaled for his medic, a man in a black suit who arrived with a bag that looked more like it belonged in a battlefield than a school.
"Check her," Damien commanded, his voice a low, gravelly vibration. "If there is one bruise that wasn't here this morning, I will hold everyone in this room accountable."
The medic worked with clinical efficiency, but Damien’s attention never left the room. He watched as his men systematically gathered the families. He didn't need to kill them; he simply needed to expose them.
"You think money makes you untouchable," Damien said, his voice carrying clearly over the terrified silence. "You think you can look at a woman who works, who struggles, who carries the future, and treat her like filth because you have a trust fund?"
He stood up, his suit immaculate despite the carnage he had caused. He walked toward Chloe Ashford. The girl, once so arrogant, was shaking, her mascara running in dark streaks down her cheeks.
"I bought your father’s logistics firm twenty minutes ago," Damien said quietly. "I’m liquidating it. By morning, you will be exactly like her. But you won’t have her strength. You won't have her grace."
He looked at the Headmaster, who was cowering behind a serving table. "And you. You looked the other way. You allowed this."
Damien gestured to his men. The doors were locked. No one was leaving. The night was going to be long, and by the time it was over, the families who believed they owned Boston would find themselves destitute, stripped of their reputations, and left with nothing but the memory of their own cowardice.
He walked back to Maren. She was looking at him, her eyes wide with fear and relief.

"Why didn't you come for me?" she asked, her voice trembling.
"I was hunting," he said, his hand finally coming to rest on her cheek. "I had to find the people who betrayed us first. I had to make sure that when I came back to you, the path was clear."
