Chapter 7 - The Trial of Blood

Three days passed in rapid succession.
Inside the estate, life transformed into a surreal blend of intense security and profound comfort. Milo was provided with a private tutor who brought him books and toys, while Elena was treated by a team of private obstetricians who ensured her health and nutrition were fully restored.
Yet, outside the iron gates, the storm was reaching its violent climax.
It was Thursday evening. Luca stood inside the soundproofed basement holding facility beneath the Moretti private docks at Pier 19.
Dario Varga—the man with the red watch—was strapped to an iron chair in the center of the concrete room, his face bruised and bloody, his expensive suit torn to shreds.
Luca stood in front of him, slowly unbuttoning his suit jacket and handing it to Marco.
"I'll ask you one last time, Dario," Luca said, his deep voice eerily calm in the cold room. "Who authorized the hit on the pregnant waitress’s son?"
Dario spat blood onto the floor, glaring up at Luca with wild, desperate eyes. "Rossi... Rossi set up the entire thing! He promised me fifty grand if I secured the kid to keep her quiet!"
"Where is Rossi hiding tonight?" Luca asked.
"He's... he's at the old meatpacking plant on 21st Street!" Dario gasped, shivering uncontrollably. "He brought thirty men from Detroit! They're planning to hit your estate tomorrow morning during the shift change!"
Marco looked at Luca, his eyes wide. "They were going to assault the estate?"
Luca didn't answer right away. He walked over to a small metal table, picked up a clean linen towel, and wiped his hands meticulously.
"They think my home is vulnerable because I have a family inside," Luca said softly, his voice carrying a chilling, absolute stillness. "They think love makes a man weak."

He turned his head toward Marco.
"Assemble the entire vanguard," Luca ordered, his obsidian eyes flashing with a terrifying, predatory fire. "We are not waiting for tomorrow morning. We end the Rossi family tonight."
