PART 8 — Julian’s Final Confession

PART 8 — Julian’s Final Confession

The image stayed frozen on the screen.

Julian.

Standing outside my home.

Holding a folder.

Waiting.

For a moment, nobody spoke.

Because the last person we expected to see…

Was the man who started all of this.

Marcus looked at me.

“Do you want him removed?”

I stared at the screen.

A few hours ago, I would have said yes.

I would have protected myself.

Protected my children.

Protected everything I had built.

But now?

I needed answers.

“No.”

Marcus frowned.

“Ms. Vance.”

“I want him inside.”

The room went silent.

“He knows something.”

Marcus studied my face.

“And you think he’ll tell you?”

I looked at the image of Julian.

“He came back.”

A pause.

“That means something changed.”

Because Julian was many things.

Arrogant.

Selfish.

Weak.

But he was not fearless.

He had always followed the strongest person in the room.

First Eleanor.

Then me.

Now he was standing alone.

That meant he had lost something.

“Bring him in.”

Five minutes later…

The doors opened.

Julian walked inside.

But the man who entered was not the same man who had thrown me into the snow.

The confidence was gone.

The expensive suit looked wrinkled.

His face was exhausted.

His eyes immediately went to the nursery.

To our sons.

He stopped.

I watched him.

Waiting.

For excuses.

For lies.

For another performance.

Instead…

He whispered:

“Are they okay?”

I didn’t answer immediately.

Then:

“Yes.”

His shoulders lowered.

Like he had been holding his breath.

For the first time that night, he looked like a father.

Not a husband.

Not a Mercer.

A father.

Marcus stayed between us.

“Why are you here?”

Julian looked at him.

Then at me.

“I need to talk to Audrey.”

I crossed my arms.

“You already did.”

His eyes dropped.

“I know.”

A pause.

“And I know I don’t deserve another chance.”

That surprised me.

Because Julian had never admitted fault.

Not once.

I looked at the folder in his hand.

“What is that?”

He swallowed.

“Everything.”

“Everything?”

He nodded.

“Everything my family has been hiding.”

I didn’t move.

“Start talking.”

Julian took a breath.

Then opened the folder.

Inside were documents.

Old documents.

Some looked decades old.

He placed them on the table.

“My grandfather founded Mercer Luxury with your father.”

I already knew that part.

“But it wasn’t just business.”

He looked at me.

“It was a partnership.”

I nodded.

“Keep going.”

“Your mother discovered the truth.”

“What truth?”

Julian hesitated.

“The original agreement.”

He pulled out a document.

“The Vance family owned the controlling shares.”

I frowned.

“Of course.”

“No.”

He shook his head.

“You don’t understand.”

He pointed.

“The agreement had a condition.”

I looked closer.

A section I had never seen.

My eyes narrowed.

“What is this?”

Julian’s voice was quiet.

“The company would remain under Vance control.”

A pause.

“Unless the next generation married into the Mercer family.”

The room went cold.

I looked up.

“What?”

Julian nodded.

“My grandfather created a clause.”

A pause.

“He believed the Mercer family should eventually control everything.”

My stomach turned.

“That’s why…”

“Yes.”

Julian looked ashamed.

“That’s why Eleanor wanted me close to you.”

I stared.

“So the marriage…”

He couldn’t finish.

I did.

“Was planned.”

His silence confirmed it.

The room felt smaller.

All those memories.

All those moments.

Suddenly they had another meaning.

I remembered the first day Julian met me.

The way he appeared.

The timing.

The attention.

The way he somehow knew exactly what I needed.

I hated that I could see it now.

Julian’s eyes filled.

“But something happened.”

I laughed bitterly.

“What?”

He looked at me.

“I fell in love with you.”

I said nothing.

Because I didn’t know if I believed him.

He continued.

“At first, everything was an act.”

A pause.

“I was supposed to convince you to marry me.”

He looked down.

“Then I actually cared.”

My expression hardened.

“And you still betrayed me.”

His face fell.

“Yes.”

No excuses.

Just yes.

“I was weak.”

A pause.

“Eleanor reminded me what would happen if I chose you.”

“What?”

He looked at the documents.

“She said the company would collapse.”

“She said your mother ruined everything.”

“She said I was protecting my family.”

I stared.

“And you believed her.”

He nodded.

“I did.”

A pause.

“Until tonight.”

“Why tonight?”

His eyes lifted.

“Because I saw you outside.”

The snow.

The babies.

The door closing.

His own cruelty.

“I saw what I had become.”

His voice cracked.

“And I hated myself.”

I looked away.

Because part of me wanted to believe there was still something human in him.

But pain remembered.

“You still threw us out.”

“Yes.”

He closed his eyes.

“And I will regret that forever.”

Silence.

Then Marcus spoke.

“You mentioned documents.”

Julian nodded.

“There’s more.”

He pulled out another file.

This one was labeled:

AUDREY VANCE — SUCCESSION PROTOCOL

My blood ran cold.

“What is that?”

Julian looked at me.

“The reason Eleanor is desperate.”

I opened it.

The first page made my heart stop.

It was about my children.

Not my company.

My sons.

I looked up.

“What does this mean?”

Julian’s voice shook.

“Your twins aren’t just heirs to your company.”

A pause.

“They are the legal key to the Vance-Mercer agreement.”

I frowned.

“I don’t understand.”

He pointed to a paragraph.

“If Audrey Vance’s children carry both bloodlines…”

I read the sentence.

My face went pale.

“Control transfers…”

I stopped.

Julian nodded.

“Yes.”

The words felt impossible.

The ownership of Vance Global Holdings.

My company.

My life’s work.

Was tied to my children.

And Eleanor knew.

“She wants them.”

Julian nodded.

“Not because she cares.”

A pause.

“She wants their inheritance.”

My hands tightened.

“So she planned all of this.”

“Yes.”

Julian looked at me.

“But there’s something worse.”

I looked at him.

“What?”

He hesitated.

Then:

“Eleanor wasn’t acting alone.”

The room went silent.

“Who?”

Julian looked terrified.

“Someone else has been funding everything.”

“Who?”

He opened his mouth.

But before he could answer…

The lights went out.

Again.

Everyone froze.

The security alarms started screaming.

Marcus immediately moved.

“Lock down the building.”

The doors sealed.

The cameras activated.

Then every screen in the room turned on.

A woman appeared.

Eleanor.

Sitting somewhere unknown.

Smiling.

“Audrey.”

My blood ran cold.

“You always were difficult.”

I stepped closer to the screen.

“Where are my children’s documents?”

She laughed.

“Still thinking like a mother.”

A pause.

“Not like an owner.”

My face hardened.

“Where are you?”

She ignored me.

“You should have listened when Julian told you the truth.”

I looked at him.

Then back at the screen.

“What do you want?”

Eleanor smiled.

“I want what was always mine.”

A pause.

“Vance Global.”

I shook my head.

“You’ll never get it.”

Her smile disappeared.

“Then you’ll learn the second truth.”

My heart tightened.

“What truth?”

She leaned closer.

“The reason your mother died.”

The room went silent.

Then she said:

“Because she discovered that you weren’t the only child involved.”

My blood froze.

“What?”

Eleanor smiled.

“You had a twin.”

I stopped breathing.

A pause.

“A sister.”

The screen went black.

And in the darkness…

Everyone realized something.

May you like

The biggest secret had never been the company.

It was the child my mother had hidden from the world.
