Part 3: The House Had Been Trying to Tell Him

The words refused to leave Emiliano's mind.

"Thank God... he finally came back."

Not from Europe.

Not from a business trip.

Back to reality.

Back to his own home.

For nearly a full minute, neither he nor Victor spoke.

The surveillance room felt smaller than before.

The dozens of glowing monitors no longer looked like security equipment.

They looked like mirrors.

Each screen reflected a different part of a life Emiliano had been too busy to notice.

He had built one of the largest construction empires in the country.

He had negotiated billion-dollar contracts across three continents.

He could detect dishonesty in a boardroom within seconds.

Yet somehow...

He had failed to recognize fear inside his own daughters.

"Rewind Camera Twenty-One."

Victor immediately complied.

The recording rolled backward.

Maria appeared once again in the upstairs hallway, holding folded towels.

She stopped outside the living room.

Listened.

Closed her eyes.

Crossed herself.

Then whispered,

"Thank God... he finally came back."

Emiliano replayed it again.

And again.

Each time, the words sounded heavier.

More desperate.

Finally he stood.

"I want to speak to Maria."

Victor shook his head.

"Sir..."

"Not yet."

"If you reveal yourself now, everyone will know you never left."

Emiliano stopped pacing.

Victor was right.

One wrong move could destroy the chance to discover the full truth.

He forced himself back into the chair.

"Keep recording."

Meanwhile, upstairs...

Rosa helped the girls carry their schoolbooks into the study.

The room was bright and welcoming.

Bookshelves lined one wall.

A globe sat in the corner.

Colorful artwork decorated the windows.

It was one of the few places in the mansion that still felt like a home.

Martina climbed into her chair.

Daniela opened her math notebook.

Neither girl smiled.

Rosa noticed.

She crouched beside them.

"What happened?"

Daniela answered automatically.

"Nothing."

Rosa tilted her head.

"Are you sure?"

Silence.

Martina looked toward the closed door.

Only after confirming no one else was nearby did she whisper,

"Is Daddy really in Europe?"

The question made Emiliano's heart skip.

Rosa smiled gently.

"Yes, sweetheart."

"When will he come home?"

"In a few days."

Martina lowered her eyes.

"I don't like when he leaves."

"I know."

Daniela quietly added,

"Things are different."

Rosa didn't answer immediately.

Instead, she carefully closed the study door.

Only then did she return to the girls.

"What do you mean?"

Daniela hesitated.

Then looked at her little sister.

Martina nodded slightly.

It was almost like asking permission.

Finally Daniela whispered,

"Miss Patricia is nicer when Daddy's here."

The words landed like stones.

Rosa remained calm.

"Has she been unkind?"

Both girls stayed silent.

Not because they didn't know.

Because they were afraid.

In the surveillance room, Emiliano felt sick.

Victor looked at him.

"Sir..."

"I know."

His voice barely rose above a whisper.

"I know."

Rosa reached for Daniela's hand.

"You can always tell me the truth."

Daniela bit her lip.

"Will you get into trouble?"

"No."

"Promise?"

"I promise."

The older girl took a deep breath.

"She says we're spoiled."

Rosa nodded.

"What else?"

"She says Daddy loves her more than us."

Emiliano froze.

His breathing stopped.

Martina quietly added,

"She says when they get married..."

"...everything will belong to her."

Victor slowly looked toward Emiliano.

Neither man spoke.

Because neither trusted his own voice.

Rosa kept her expression steady.

"What exactly did she say?"

Daniela repeated the words carefully.

"She told us..."

"...that one day this won't be our house anymore."

Martina hugged her rabbit tightly.

"She said Daddy will have a new family."

Rosa's eyes softened.

"Oh, sweetheart..."

"She said..."

Martina's tiny voice cracked.

"...there won't be room for us."

The little girl finally began to cry.

Not loudly.

Just silent tears rolling down flushed cheeks.

Rosa immediately pulled her into a hug.

"No."

She whispered firmly.

"Listen to me."

"Your father loves you."

"Very much."

Martina buried her face against Rosa's shoulder.

"Then why does he always leave?"

The question pierced straight through the surveillance room.

Emiliano covered his mouth.

No board meeting...

No hostile takeover...

No financial disaster...

Had ever hurt this much.

He remembered every missed recital.

Every canceled weekend.

Every birthday celebrated through video calls.

Every promise postponed.

Always for one more contract.

One more meeting.

One more acquisition.

He had told himself it was for the girls.

Everything he built...

Everything he earned...

Everything he sacrificed...

Was supposedly for them.

But children never measure love in square footage.

Or stock prices.

Or private jets.

They measure it...

In presence.

Back in the study...

Rosa gently wiped Martina's tears.

"Would you like me to tell you a secret?"

Both girls looked up.

"When I was little..."

"I thought my father loved his farm more than me."

Daniela frowned.

"Really?"

Rosa smiled.

"He worked from sunrise until dark."

"I hardly saw him."

"What happened?"

"One night I asked him."

"What did he say?"

Rosa laughed softly.

"He said..."

"'The reason I work so hard is because I love you.'"

She paused.

"But then he realized something."

"What?"

"He stopped working every Sunday."

The girls listened carefully.

"He said one day each week belonged only to his family."

Martina sniffled.

"Did it help?"

"It changed everything."

Daniela whispered,

"I wish Daddy had Sundays."

Rosa smiled sadly.

"So do I."

Emiliano couldn't bear it anymore.

He stood so suddenly his chair rolled backward.

"I've made a terrible mistake."

Victor remained silent.

The billionaire stared at the monitors.

His daughters weren't asking for expensive gifts.

They weren't asking for vacations.

Or ponies.

Or designer clothes.

One wanted Sundays.

The other wanted her father to come home.

And he had been too busy chasing success to notice.

Suddenly another camera flashed.

Camera Three.

The kitchen.

Patricia had entered.

She wasn't alone.

A man Emiliano had never seen before walked in behind her.

Tall.

Expensive suit.

Confident smile.

He didn't look like a contractor.

Or a family friend.

Without hesitation...

Patricia wrapped both arms around his neck.

And kissed him.

Not politely.

Not briefly.

Passionately.

For several long seconds.

The coffee mug slipped from Emiliano's hand and shattered across the concrete floor of the surveillance room.

Victor's eyes widened.

Neither man said a word.

Because on the screen...

The billionaire's fiancée...

The woman who claimed Rosa couldn't be trusted...

May you like

Was embracing another man...

Inside Emiliano's own house.
