PART 1 — THE EMAIL THAT DESTROYED THEIR PERFECT LIFE

The woman sleeping with my husband sent me photos from my own bedroom.
By sunrise, I had a plan that could destroy both of their worlds.
People expect heartbreak to look loud.
Screaming.
Crying.
Breaking plates.
Mine didn’t.

Mine looked like a quiet living room, a fresh cup of coffee, and a woman calmly collecting evidence.
My name is Claire Carter.
For three years, I was married to Michael Carter, the CEO of Carter Global.
Everyone thought we had the perfect marriage.
The powerful businessman and his intelligent wife.
The couple everyone envied.
Until my phone buzzed at 11:43 p.m.
Unknown number.
Three photos.
The first one made my entire body freeze.
A woman was lying on my side of the bed.
Wearing my ivory silk robe.
Not something similar.
Mine.
The limited-edition robe I bought after closing the biggest deal of my career.
The same robe Michael laughed at and called “a ridiculous purchase.”
The second photo was worse.
She was holding my husband.
Michael.
His arm was around her.
And he was smiling.
Not drunk.
Not confused.
Not forced.
Happy.
The third photo destroyed the last bit of hope I had.
Michael was asleep beside her.
In our bed.
Under our sheets.
The sheets his mother gave us on our wedding day.
Then the message arrived.
“Hey, Claire. Michael says you’re basically useless in bed.”
I stared at the screen.
Ten seconds.
Twenty.
Then I placed my phone down.
I didn’t cry.
I didn’t scream.
I walked into my office.
Because emotions are expensive.
Evidence is priceless.
I saved everything.
The pictures.
The messages.
The number.
The timestamps.
Then another message appeared.
“Why so quiet? Does it hurt knowing he finally found someone better?”
I smiled.
Not because it didn’t hurt.
Because I knew exactly what I was going to do.
I called Ryan.
My private investigator.
“Claire?”
“I need a name.”
“Send me everything.”
Five minutes later, he called back.
“I found her.”
I leaned back.
“Tell me.”
“Brittany Adams. Twenty-six years old. Works at Carter Global.”
I wasn’t surprised.
Of course she did.
Ryan continued.
“She started reporting directly to Michael three months ago. He personally approved her promotion.”
Three months.
Exactly when I was traveling to save his company millions.
While I was protecting his empire…
he was building a second life.
“There’s more,” Ryan said.
“She spends way above her income. Luxury hotels. Designer bags. Expensive dinners.”
I looked out at the city lights.
“Someone is paying.”
A pause.
“Do you want me to find out who?”
I smiled.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because tomorrow morning, everyone will find out.”
At midnight, I opened my laptop.
I created a folder.
Photos.
Messages.
Evidence.
Then I opened the company directory.
HR.
Legal.
Board members.
Executives.
127 people.
Exactly enough.
The email subject:
Formal Complaint Regarding Employee Conduct — Brittany Adams
No anger.
No insults.
Just facts.
I scheduled it.
9:00 a.m.
At 9:01, Brittany Adams would become the most famous employee in Carter Global.
Then my phone buzzed again.
“He’s staying with me tonight.”
I called Michael.
He answered immediately.
“Claire?”
“Coming home?”
A pause.
“Still with clients.”
I smiled.
“Important client?”
“Very.”
“I hope she signs the deal.”
Silence.
Then:
“What does that mean?”
“Nothing.”
I hung up.
An hour later, I checked into a hotel.
The email was ready.

The evidence was ready.
And neither Michael nor Brittany knew their perfect world was about to collapse.
