A few days later, Daniel came home earlier than usual.
He wanted to surprise Lily.

“What are you making?”

He sat beside her.

“Vanessa says I make too many things.”

“Did she say that?”
Lily nodded.
“She says I’m too emotional.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
Because he finally understood.

He took her hand.
“Listen to me.”
“You are not too much.”
“You are not a problem.”
“You are my daughter.”
Tears filled Lily’s eyes.
“Really?”
Daniel hugged her.
“Always.”
That evening, he confronted Vanessa.
The woman he married stood across from him.
Still calm.
Still elegant.

“You hurt my daughter.”
Vanessa laughed softly.
“She’s just sensitive.”
“No.”
Daniel shook his head.
“She’s a child.”
“And she needed love.”
