Chapter 4 - THE BOARDROOM BATTLE

The sudden, staggering offer hung in the air of the narrow apartment hallway like a thunderclap.

Javier stared down at the crisp, official documents inside the gold-embossed folder. His eyes scanned the legal verbiage, the unbelievable compensation figures, and the official seal of Mendoza Logistics & Global Freight.

"Señora Mendoza..." Javier said, his voice thick with emotion, his mind spinning. "I... I don't know what to say. I'm just a driver. I don't have a corporate degree. I don't belong in an executive office."

Valeria took a step into the apartment foyer, her presence instantly filling the humble room, yet bringing an aura of complete security rather than intimidation.

"Degrees can be bought, Javier," Valeria said, her tone absolute and unyielding. "Loyalty, courage, and true human integrity cannot. Last night, I was surrounded by men who hold degrees from the finest universities in the world, men who wore ten-thousand-dollar suits and spoke six languages. And every single one of them was a coward and a thief who tried to destroy me for personal profit."

She looked down at Lucía, who was listening intently, then looked back into Javier’s eyes.

"You saved my life last night," Valeria continued softly. "You saved my company, my reputation, and my freedom. You did it without asking for a single peso, without knowing who I was at first, simply because your internal moral compass wouldn't allow you to leave a human being in danger. That is the exact character I need sitting beside me in the executive boardroom."

Javier looked down at Lucía, who reached up and squeezed his thumb with her little hand. He thought about the endless, exhausting nights behind the wheel, the constant anxiety over unpaid bills, the fear of what would happen to his daughter if he ever fell ill or had an accident on the road.

"When do I start?" Javier asked, a quiet, powerful conviction taking root in his chest.

"Right now," Valeria replied with a sharp, victorious smile. "Because today, we settle the score completely."

An hour later, after dropping Lucía off at his sister Carmen’s house with strict instructions that she was to be guarded by two of Valeria’s top private security personnel, Javier found himself sitting in the passenger seat of Valeria’s lead executive SUV, dressed in a sharp, dark suit provided by her team.

They were driving toward the glittering glass tower of Mendoza Logistics on Avenida Insurgentes.

"Julian and three senior board members called an unauthorized emergency shareholder meeting for eleven o'clock today," Valeria explained as they sped through the city. "They believe I am still incapacitated at home, suffering from the public embarrassment they orchestrated. They intend to vote on a resolution declaring me legally unfit due to 'medical incompetence' and transfer full voting control to Julian's shell corporation."

She turned to Javier, handing him an encrypted USB flash drive.

"What is this?" Javier asked.

"That drive contains the dashcam footage from your sedan last night," Valeria revealed, her eyes burning with cold, brilliant intelligence. "Your car's internal audio and rear-facing security cameras recorded the entire sequence: my frantic arrival, my clear statement that Julian had drugged my glass at El Santuario, the dark SUV that pursued us, and your brilliant evasive maneuvers that proved I was being systematically targeted and hunted."

Javier realized the full scope of her genius. His humble sedan wasn't just a transport vehicle; it was an ironclad, indisputable mobile crime scene recorder that completely demolished Julian’s constructed narrative.

At precisely eleven-fifteen AM, the heavy oak doors of the central board room on the forty-second floor of the Mendoza Tower were slammed open.

Julian—a sleek, arrogant man in his late forties with slicked-back hair and a gold signet ring—was standing at the head of the long mahogany table, holding a pen over a legal document, surrounded by six nervous board members.

"As acting chairman," Julian was saying smoothly, "in light of Señora Mendoza's unfortunate mental breakdown last night—"

"The only breakdown happening today, Julian," Valeria’s voice boomed across the vast room, "is your criminal career."

The entire room gasped. Julian dropped his pen, his face instantly turning the color of chalk as Valeria strode into the boardroom like an ascending queen, flanked by Javier and three senior corporate attorneys.

Julian stammered, looking wildly around the room. "Valeria?! What... how are you here?! You were—"

"Drugged? Frame-up attempted? Driven into a corner?" Valeria sneered, walking directly to the head of the table and placing her hands flat on the polished wood, leaning into his pale face. "You thought you hired an amateur to trap me. But you forgot that the people who actually run this company—the drivers, the operators, the people on the ground—possess something you will never understand."

She gestured toward Javier, who stepped forward with complete, quiet authority, plugging the encrypted flash drive into the boardroom’s central projection system.

Within seconds, massive high-definition screens descended from the ceiling, playing the crystal-clear dashcam video and audio from the night before. Julian’s frantic commands over his phone, the image of the trailing SUV, and Valeria’s clear, documented state of being targeted filled the room in overwhelming, irrefutable detail.

The board members instantly turned on Julian, shouting in panic, backing away from him as if he carried a contagious disease.

Valeria’s lead attorney stepped forward, slapping a federal arrest warrant and corporate termination notice onto the table in front of Julian.

"Federal prosecutors are waiting in the lobby, Julian," Valeria declared coldly. "You have five minutes to clean out your desk before you leave this building in handcuffs."

Julian collapsed into his leather chair, completely destroyed, unable to utter a single word of defense.

Valeria turned away from her ruined enemy, walking over to stand beside Javier. She looked at the remaining board members with total, unquestioned dominance.

"Effective immediately," Valeria announced to the room, "Javier Morales is appointed Vice President of Executive Security and Fleet Operations. Any objections?"

The boardroom was dead silent. Not a single person dared to raise a voice.

Javier stood tall beside the most powerful woman in the industry, no longer a forgotten driver in the rain, but a man who had changed his destiny through sheer, unyielding honor.
