Chapter 10 - The Unbreakable Rule

Six months later.
The grand cathedral in the center of the city was filled with soft candlelight and the deep, resonant melody of an organ playing classical sacred music.
The grand aisle was lined with white lilies and glowing lanterns.
Dante Moretti stood at the altar in a crisp black tuxedo, looking powerful, handsome, and complete. Beside him stood Marco as his best man.
The heavy oak doors at the back of the cathedral opened wide, and the congregation stood up in quiet awe.
Walking down the red carpet, wearing a tiny white flower-girl dress with a silver sash, was four-year-old Lily. She carried a basket of rose petals, dropping them carefully onto the carpet with intense concentration, her bare feet replaced by shiny black patent-leather shoes.
Behind her came Clara.
She looked breathtakingly radiant in an off-the-shoulder ivory lace gown, her veil floating around her like sea foam, carrying a bouquet of fresh white lilies.
When Clara reached the altar, Dante stepped down to meet her, taking her hand gently in his.
The priest began the ceremony, his voice echoing through the vaulted stone arches.
“We are gathered here today to unite this man and this woman in holy matrimony—a union born out of trials, sealed by love, and protected by faith.”
When the time came for the vows, Dante looked directly into Clara’s eyes, holding both her hands in his.
“Clara,” Dante spoke, his deep baritone voice steady and clear. “Four years ago, I thought I had lost everything worth living for. I built walls around my heart and turned my life into a fortress. Then a tiny knock on my door at midnight brought me back to life. I promise to spend every day of my remaining life protecting you, loving you, and honoring the family we have rebuilt together.”
Clara smiled through tears of pure joy.
“Dante,” she replied, her voice trembling with emotion. “I ran across half the country trying to keep you safe, only to realize that true safety was always in your arms. You gave me back my life, you gave our daughter a father, and you gave me a love that nothing in this world can ever destroy.”
“By the authority vested in me,” the priest pronounced, “I now declare you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
Dante leaned down, sliding his hand gently behind Clara’s neck, and pulled her into a deep, loving kiss as the cathedral erupted into warm applause.
That evening, back at the Moretti Estate, a magnificent celebration was held in the grand ballroom. Music filled the warm air, and laughter echoed down the hallways that had once been silent and cold.
Late into the night, after the guests had departed, Dante walked quietly down the third-floor hallway.
He stopped outside the bedroom at the end of the hall—the master suite where Lily now had her own beautiful room filled with light, toys, and books.
He pushed the door open softly.
Lily was fast asleep in her bed, wrapped in a soft pink blanket, her stuffed rabbit tucked beneath her arm. Beside her sat Clara, humming the low, gentle bedtime song about the little birds in the orchard.
Dante walked in quietly, sitting on the edge of the bed beside Clara, wrapping his arm around his wife’s waist.
Clara leaned her head against his shoulder, watching their daughter sleep peacefully.
“She’s not afraid of the dark anymore,” Clara whispered softly.
Dante looked down at his daughter, then turned to kiss his wife’s cheek.

“No one in this house will ever be afraid again,” Dante murmured.
Outside, the iron gates of the estate stood firm and secure against the night, guarding a home where love had triumphed over darkness, and where a tiny midnight knock had changed everything forever.
