PART 6: THE SECOND TIME THEY TOOK HIM

PART 6: THE SECOND TIME THEY TOOK HIM

Ava had spent thirteen months imagining the moment she would finally hold her son again.

She imagined his first real hug.

His first night sleeping safely at home.

The first morning she would wake up and realize the nightmare was over.

But nobody ever told her that getting her child back would not end the fight.

Because the moment she found Noah…

Someone else decided to take him.

Again.

The rain started falling harder as Ava stood outside the warehouse.

Daniel grabbed her shoulder.

“Ava.”

She didn’t move.

“They have him.”

Her voice was empty.

Not crying.

Not shaking.

Just broken.

Daniel looked at her carefully.

“We’ll get him back.”

She turned.

“How?”

Her eyes were full of fear and anger.

“They found him inside a hospital surrounded by police.”

“They knew exactly where he was.”

“They got past security.”

Her voice cracked.

“How do you stop someone who can reach your child anywhere?”

Daniel had no answer.

Because that was the question everyone was afraid to ask.

Robert Reed was still inside the warehouse.

The men who arrived with him had disappeared into the darkness.

And Margaret was standing near the entrance, holding the gun with trembling hands.

She looked at Ava.

“Ava…”

Ava turned toward her.

“Don’t.”

Margaret stopped.

The pain in her daughter’s eyes was worse than any punishment.

“I’m sorry.”

Ava laughed softly.

“Sorry?”

Margaret cried.

“I know.”

“No, you don’t.”

Ava stepped closer.

“You keep saying that.”

“You knew where he was.”

“You watched him.”

“You knew I was suffering.”

“And now he’s gone again.”

Margaret lowered her head.

“I’ll help you find him.”

Ava stared.

“You already had thirteen months to help me.”

That sentence destroyed Margaret.

Because it was true.

Daniel looked at them.

“We don’t have time.”

He checked his phone.

“The hospital security system was disabled for exactly six minutes.”

Ava looked at him.

“Six minutes?”

He nodded.

“Someone knew the schedule.”

“Someone inside?”

“Possibly.”

Ava’s mind raced.

Gracewell.

The warehouse.

The hospital.

Everywhere.

Someone was always one step ahead.

Then Daniel noticed something on the floor.

A small object.

A hospital bracelet.

He picked it up.

Everyone froze.

Noah’s bracelet.

The one Ava had placed on him after the test confirmed he was her son.

Daniel turned it over.

There was something written underneath.

A number.

Not a phone number.

A room number.

“Warehouse B.”

Ava looked confused.

“What does that mean?”

Daniel’s face changed.

“Another location.”

Margaret immediately said:

“No.”

Everyone looked at her.

Her face had gone pale.

“You know it?”

Margaret slowly nodded.

“It was where they kept the children before transferring them.”

Ava’s blood ran cold.

“You never told me.”

“I thought it was empty.”

“You thought?”

Margaret swallowed.

“My father used it.”

Ava stared.

“Your father?”

Margaret looked toward the darkness.

“Robert.”

Ava couldn’t believe it.

Her father.

The man who was supposed to protect her.

The man who had already taken Noah once.

Now he had taken him again.

Daniel opened the map on his phone.

“Warehouse B is thirty minutes away.”

Ava immediately moved toward the car.

Daniel stopped her.

“You can’t go alone.”

“I’m not asking.”

“Ava.”

She looked at him.

“My son is there.”

Daniel saw something in her eyes.

Not desperation.

Not fear.

A mother’s determination.

He nodded.

“Then we go together.”

Margaret stepped forward.

“I’m coming.”

Ava stopped.

“No.”

Margaret looked hurt.

“I can help.”

“You already helped enough.”

The words cut deep.

But Margaret accepted them.

Because she knew she deserved them.

The drive was silent.

No music.

No conversation.

Only the sound of the engine and rain.

Ava stared out the window.

She remembered Noah’s face.

His tiny hand touching her cheek.

Mama.

One word.

One word that brought her back from thirteen months of grief.

She whispered:

“He knew me.”

Daniel glanced at her.

“What?”

“Even after everything.”

She touched her face.

“He knew.”

Daniel nodded.

“Children remember love.”

Ava looked down.

“Then why did he let them take him?”

Daniel didn’t answer.

Because the truth was painful.

Children could love more than one person.

Noah had known Chloe.

He had known Margaret.

He had known Ava.

But only one of those people was his mother.

And Ava needed to believe that.

When they arrived at Warehouse B, the building looked abandoned.

Different from the first.

Older.

Darker.

The door was slightly open.

Daniel immediately raised his hand.

“Wait.”

He listened.

Nothing.

No voices.

No footsteps.

Ava didn’t care.

She pushed inside.

The warehouse was empty.

Rows of old furniture.

Broken equipment.

Dust.

Then she saw something.

A small blanket.

On the floor.

Noah’s blanket.

She ran to it.

“No!”

She picked it up.

It was warm.

Recently used.

Ava’s heart raced.

“He was here.”

Daniel looked around.

“They left in a hurry.”

Then a sound came from upstairs.

A child crying.

Ava froze.

“Noah.”

She ran.

“Ava, wait!”

She climbed the stairs.

Every step felt endless.

The crying became louder.

She reached the top.

A hallway.

Three doors.

The crying came from the last one.

Ava opened it.

And stopped.

The room was filled with boxes.

Files.

Photos.

Records.

And in the center…

A small bed.

Empty.

Noah was gone.

But on the bed was a recording device.

Ava picked it up.

A man’s voice played.

Robert.

“You always were stubborn, Ava.”

Her face changed.

“Your entire life, you thought strength meant fighting.”

The recording continued.

“But sometimes strength means accepting the truth.”

Ava’s hands shook.

“Your son is not a possession.”

Ava froze.

Because Robert had never spoken like that.

The voice became colder.

“He belongs to a bloodline.”

Ava whispered:

“No…”

“You cannot hide him from who he is.”

Then another voice appeared.

A woman’s voice.

Familiar.

Ava’s blood froze.

Chloe.

“Please…”

Her voice was crying.

“Stop this.”

Robert answered:

“You were never supposed to love him.”

Chloe replied:

“He’s a child.”

“He’s an asset.”

“No.”

Ava listened carefully.

Chloe cried.

“You took him from his real mother.”

A pause.

“And now you’re taking him from me too.”

Ava realized.

Chloe was there.

She wasn’t part of this.

She was trapped too.

Then Robert spoke again.

“The final transfer happens tonight.”

Daniel looked at Ava.

“Transfer?”

The recording ended.

Ava dropped it.

“No.”

Her voice became terrified.

“Where is he taking him?”

Then they heard it.

A phone ringing downstairs.

Someone had left it behind.

Daniel picked it up.

A message appeared on the screen.

Coordinates.

And one sentence.

COME TO THE RIVER TERMINAL.

BRING THE MOTHER.

Ava stared.

“The mother?”

Daniel looked at her.

“They want you.”

Ava knew.

This was no longer about hiding Noah.

They wanted a confrontation.

They wanted the one person who refused to disappear.

She grabbed the phone.

“Then let’s go.”

Daniel looked worried.

“Ava…”

She looked at him.

“If they want me.”

Her voice became cold.

May you like

“I’ll give them me.”

“But I’m taking my son home.”
