PART 3

For several seconds, no one moved.

The room that had been filled with betrayal, anger, and excuses suddenly became something else.

A courtroom.

Everyone was waiting for the evidence.

Waiting for the truth.

Maverick stared at me, his confidence slowly disappearing.

The man who had always known exactly what to say.

The man who could charm anyone with a smile.

The man who convinced me he was different.

Now looked like someone watching his entire world collapse.

“Amy,” he said quietly.

I looked at him.

“Don’t.”

My voice stopped him.

“I spent two years listening to your promises. Tonight, I’m done listening.”

His jaw tightened.

“You don’t understand what’s happening.”

I almost smiled.

“That’s the same thing you told yourself when you thought I would never find out.”

Penelope stood beside the bed, her arms crossed.

She looked nervous now.

Because she finally realized something.

The person she thought she had defeated…

was not broken.

I was angry.

And anger is much more dangerous when it is controlled.

My phone was still in my hand.

The report from my father’s assistant was open.

Page after page.

Dates.

Transactions.

Messages.

Photographs.

Everything.

Maverick’s entire secret life was sitting on my screen.

“Let’s start with the easiest question,” I said.

Everyone looked at me.

“Who is Monica Reed?”

Maverick froze.

Only for a second.

But it was enough.

His father noticed.

His mother noticed.

Everyone noticed.

“What?” his mother whispered.

I looked at Maverick.

“Your business partner.”

He said nothing.

“The woman who helped you move money through fake companies.”

His face changed.

“That’s impossible.”

I shook my head.

“No, Maverick.”

I stepped closer.

“It’s very possible.”

I turned my phone around.

“Because my father has been investigating you for three months.”

The color drained from his face.

Three months.

He had no idea.

None of them did.

Penelope looked between us.

“Wait…”

Her confidence cracked.

“Your father knew?”

I looked at her.

“Yes.”

A strange silence filled the room.

Because everyone suddenly realized one thing.

I was never as powerless as they thought.

Maverick laughed nervously.

“That’s a bluff.”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Really?”

I pressed a button on my phone.

A video began playing.

Maverick’s own voice filled the room.

His own words.

His own confession.

"Once she signs everything, we’ll have control of the property. Her father won’t even realize until it’s too late."

The room went silent.

Maverick turned white.

“No…”

His mother covered her mouth.

His father looked devastated.

Penelope stepped backward.

“You recorded him?”

I looked at her.

“No.”

I paused.

“He recorded himself.”

Because two weeks earlier, my father had warned me.

Something about Maverick had changed.

He had become secretive.

Defensive.

Careless.

My father didn’t tell me to leave.

He didn’t want to control my life.

He only said:

“Watch carefully, Amy. People reveal themselves when they believe they have already won.”

And he was right.

I watched.

I waited.

And tonight, Maverick revealed everything.

“I don’t understand,” his father said.

His voice was filled with disappointment.

“You married her to steal from her?”

Maverick looked away.

“Dad…”

“No.”

His father stepped forward.

“Answer me.”

The room held its breath.

Finally, Maverick snapped.

“Do you know what it’s like living under your shadow?”

Everyone froze.

“I spent my whole life being compared to you!”

He pointed at his father.

“You built everything. Everyone respected you. Everyone thought I was just your failure of a son.”

His voice grew louder.

“So I found my own way.”

His mother stared at him.

“By destroying an innocent woman?”

Maverick laughed bitterly.

“Innocent?”

Then he looked at me.

“She hid everything too.”

I frowned.

“What?”

He pointed at me.

“She lied about who she really was.”

The room became silent.

My fingers tightened around my phone.

Because that was the first time he had mentioned it.

“You knew?”

His smile returned slightly.

“I always knew.”

I felt a cold wave pass through me.

“How?”

“You weren’t as careful as you thought.”

He stepped closer.

“You thought changing your name would hide everything?”

My heartbeat slowed.

“You investigated me.”

“Yes.”

The answer came without hesitation.

“And when I found out who you really were…”

He smiled.

“I knew I had found the perfect opportunity.”

Everyone looked at me.

Waiting.

But I wasn’t afraid.

Because he still didn’t understand.

He thought my secret was a weakness.

He thought my family name was something I had hidden because I was ashamed.

He was wrong.

I hid it because I wanted something real.

Not because I needed protection.

I looked at him.

“You’re right.”

He paused.

“I did hide who I was.”

Maverick smiled.

“Finally admitting it?”

“Yes.”

I nodded.

“But you made one mistake.”

His expression changed.

“What?”

I walked toward the window.

Looking down at the city lights below.

“I never hid because I was weak.”

I turned back.

“I hid because I wanted to know if someone loved me without knowing what I owned.”

Silence.

“And tonight, I got my answer.”

Maverick looked uncomfortable.

“So what now?”

I smiled.

A calm smile.

The kind that made him nervous.

“Now?”

I looked at my phone.

“Now everyone who needs to know will know.”

His eyes widened.

“What did you do?”

Before I could answer…

The hotel room phone rang.

Everyone jumped.

The sound cut through the silence.

The front desk.

I picked it up.

“Hello?”

The receptionist’s voice trembled.

“Mrs. Carter?”

I frowned.

“Yes?”

“There are several people asking for you downstairs.”

“Who?”

A pause.

Then she said:

“Lawyers.”

My smile disappeared.

Not from fear.

From satisfaction.

Because my father had moved faster than I expected.

Maverick heard the word.

Lawyers.

And for the first time…

He understood.

This wasn’t a fight between a betrayed wife and a cheating husband.

This was a war.

And he had no idea how powerful his enemy was.

I hung up the phone.

Then I looked at him.

“Your mistake was thinking I came here to beg for an explanation.”

I stepped toward the door.

“I came here to collect evidence.”

And as I opened it…

May you like

The first team of lawyers walked in.

Maverick’s empire was about to fall.
