Chapter 10 - The Empire of Flame

Three months later.

The summer sun shone brightly over the grand estate overlooking the waters of Long Island Sound.

The estate—formerly the private sanctuary of the Moretti family thirty years ago—had been completely restored to its historic glory. The tall iron gates were forged with the intricate crescent and flame crest, the manicured gardens were bursting with white roses, and dark-suited security personnel patrolled the perimeter with silent efficiency.

Inside the grand master suite on the top floor, Mireia stood in front of a floor-to-ceiling mirror.

She wore a breathtaking bridal gown of ivory lace and silk, trailing six feet behind her across the hardwood floor. Her dark hair was styled up with vintage diamond pins, her skin radiant, her violet eyes shining with supreme confidence.

Beside her stood Alyssa, dressed in a sleek maid-of-honor dress of soft mauve silk, carefully adjusting Mireia’s veil.

“You look like a queen, Mireia,” Alyssa whispered, her eyes shining with happy tears.

“I feel like myself,” Mireia smiled, catching her sister’s reflection in the glass.

Over the last three months, everything had changed.

Dalton Logistics had been liquidated, its ports fully acquired by the Moretti-Villano Enterprise. Richard Dalton was currently serving a fifteen-year sentence in a federal prison for grand fraud and money laundering.

Caleb Vance had been stripped of his position at Vance Financial, his reputation completely destroyed after the ballroom scandal. He had spent the last two months calling Mireia’s old number repeatedly, begging for forgiveness, leaving pathetic voice messages claiming he had made the biggest mistake of his life.

Mireia had never answered a single call. Last week, she had instructed Arthur Vance to issue a permanent restraining order against him. Caleb Vance was a ghost of her past—a weak, insignificant man who no longer existed in her world.

Alyssa had enrolled in the prestigious Art Institute of Chicago, her gallery now fully funded under her own name through an independent trust Mireia had created for her.

A soft knock sounded at the double doors of the suite.

The door opened, and Darius Villano stepped into the room.

He was dressed in a crisp black tuxedo, looking impeccably handsome, his dark hair neatly styled back. He stopped in his tracks the moment his eyes landed on Mireia.

For the second time since they had met, the cold, unyielding mask on Darius Villano’s face vanished, replaced by an expression of pure, unadulterated devotion.

Alyssa smiled warmly, gathering her dress. “I’ll give you two a minute.” She squeezed Mireia’s hand gently and stepped out of the room, pulling the heavy oak doors shut behind her.

Darius walked slowly across the plush rug, stopping inches away from Mireia. He reached out, his long fingers gently picking up her gloved hand, holding it against his chest where his heart was beating steady and fast.

“You are the most breathtaking vision I have ever seen in my life,” Darius said, his voice deep and thick with genuine emotion.

Mireia looked up into his iron-grey eyes, feeling the immense warmth and safety that had surrounded her every single day since she had walked into his Maybach.

“You gave me my life back, Darius,” Mireia whispered softly. “You gave me my name, my pride, and my freedom.”

Darius leaned down, placing a gentle, reverent kiss on her forehead, his hands cupping her face.

“You gave yourself your pride back, Mireia,” Darius corrected gently. “I just provided the steel to back your fire. You were never meant to be a secondary choice to any man. You were meant to rule.”

He reached into his pocket, pulling out a small velvet box. He flipped it open to reveal a magnificent ring—a flawless five-carat black diamond surrounded by a halo of red rubies, set in a band of white platinum engraved with the crescent and flame.

“Caleb Vance gave you brass and made you feel small,” Darius said, taking her left hand and slipping the stunning ring onto her ring finger beside the ancient signet ring. “I give you an empire, my heart, and my absolute loyalty for the rest of my life.”

Mireia looked down at the glowing ring, then threw her arms around Darius’s neck, pulling him down into a passionate, breathtaking kiss. Darius wrapped his arms around her waist, holding her tight against his heart, lifting her slightly off her feet.

When they finally parted, both of them were breathless, their eyes locked in an unbreakable promise.

From the hallway outside, the soft, beautiful notes of a pipe organ began to echo through the estate, signaling that the guests were seated in the grand courtyard.

Darius held out his arm, a handsome, lethal, and devastatingly charming smile gracing his face.

“Ready to make history, Mrs. Villano?”

Mireia placed her hand firmly on his arm, her spine straight, her eyes burning with bright, eternal fire.

“Let’s show them how an empire is ruled, my King.”
