Chapter 2 - The Rewritten Narrative

The ten minutes following the assault were a masterclass in manipulation. As security swarmed, Emily stood against the wall, shaking, while Nathan—the supposed victim—positioned himself with tactical precision.
"She became violent," he told the officers, his voice laced with practiced tremor. "She was displaying drug-seeking behavior."
Emily wanted to scream. "I never asked for medication!"
Nathan didn't even look at her. He spoke only to the men in uniform, his tone one of pained authority. He painted a picture of a patient who had experienced a psychotic break when denied opioids. It was a narrative so perfectly crafted for a medical setting that it bypassed the logic of the situation.
Megan Reed, the nurse, hovered in the periphery. Emily caught her eye—a plea for truth in a room full of lies.
"That isn't what I saw," Megan interjected, her voice wavering but clear.
Nathan’s jaw tightened. The mask flickered, revealing a flash of genuine, jagged malice. "You were not in the room," he spat.
"Because you told me to leave," Megan countered.

Emily felt the cold weight of the reality: Nathan didn’t just want to win; he wanted to destroy her credibility before she could ever utter a word of accusation. As the officers escorted her down the hallway, the hospital’s sterile white walls felt like a prison corridor. Every person they passed looked at her with suspicion. She was the aggressor, the drug-seeker, the woman who had snapped.
She was taken to a holding area, not to be helped, but to be processed. She realized then that Nathan Cole wasn’t just a doctor; he was a predator who knew exactly how to use the institution as his shield.
