The next forty-eight hours were a blur of sleepless nights and frantic research. Emily didn't go home; she stayed in a motel, terrified that Nathan might have the influence to track her down. She dove into the dark corners of the internet—local forums, medical review sites, and old police blotters.
She wasn't looking for news articles; she was looking for patterns.
She found a post from three years prior: “Discharged without care after refusing an ‘extra’ exam.”
She found another from five years ago: “The doctor was rude, dismissive, and made me feel unsafe in the examination room.”
They were dismissed as "difficult patients." The language was identical to what Nathan had used against her. Emily began to track these women down. It was slow work, met with suspicion and fear. These women had been silenced by shame and the fear of a legal battle against a powerful medical corporation.
One woman, Sarah, finally answered her call.
"He's untouchable," Sarah whispered. "The board loves him. He brings in too much money."
"He’s not untouchable," Emily said. "He’s just organized. And we can be more organized."
Emily started building a map—a digital dossier of every incident, every shifted narrative, and every nurse he had silenced. She wasn't just a victim anymore; she was an investigator. She realized that the "routine" examination was a ritual he performed, a way to test boundaries before committing a more severe transgression.
