Chapter 3 - The Gaslight Strategy
In the interrogation room, Emily sat on a plastic chair, the hospital blanket slipping from her shoulders. The detective assigned to the case, Miller, was a man who looked like he had seen everything and believed none of it.
"He's a doctor, Ms. Carter," Miller said, leaning against the doorframe. "Respected in the community. Why would he hurt you?"
"Because he locked the door," Emily said, her voice hoarse. "Because he wouldn't let me leave. Because he ignored my 'no'."
"He claims you were disoriented due to the pain and the medication you were seeking."
"I haven't taken any medication!"
Emily described the encounter in granular detail. She described the way his gaze shifted, the way he ignored the standard protocol, and the way he had dismissed the nurse. Detective Miller scribbled notes, but his expression remained skeptical.
Meanwhile, Nathan was being treated in the emergency wing. He was busy making calls—to the hospital board, to the media, to his legal team. By the time Emily was "cleared" to leave, the hospital had already drafted a press release regarding an "unprovoked attack by a patient on a staff member."

She pulled out her phone and checked her messages. They were filled with notifications from the hospital app, asking her to "confirm her appointment" and "rate her visit."
She was a ghost in their system, a woman whose testimony was being systematically overwritten by an algorithm of professional dominance. But she remembered the way he had looked at her—the calm, predatory confidence. He had done this before. And she was going to find out who else he had broken.
