PART 7: THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK

PART 7: THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK
The name stayed in my mind.
Thomas.
I read it again.
Like the letters might rearrange themselves.
They didn’t.
The man who taught me how to negotiate.
The man who gave me advice when I started my first company project.
The man my father trusted.
The man who stood beside my family for decades.
Him.
Not a stranger.
Not an enemy from outside.
Someone who had been inside our home.
Inside our lives.
Inside my trust.
I looked at Richard.
“How long has he known?”
Richard lowered his eyes.
“Since before you were born.”
My stomach tightened.
“Explain.”
He opened another file.
“Thomas was your mother’s older brother.”
I already knew that.
But hearing it aloud made everything worse.
“He helped your grandfather build connections.”
“He was involved in Morgan Holdings from the beginning.”
“So why hide his identity?”
Richard looked at me.
“Because your mother cut him off.”
“Why?”
A pause.
“Because she discovered he was stealing.”
Everything became clear.
The missing money.
The manipulation.
The attacks.
It always came back to power.
Thomas didn’t want the company.
He wanted control over everyone who owned it.
I went back to the house.
But this time…
I wasn’t alone.
James, my security chief, followed me.
Clara stayed close.
Because none of us trusted anyone anymore.
The old mansion was quiet.
Almost peaceful.
But I knew better.
A quiet house could hide the loudest secrets.
We found Thomas in the library.
Sitting calmly.
Drinking coffee.
Like he expected us.
He looked up.
And smiled.
“Finally.”
My body went cold.
“Finally what?”
“Finally you know.”
Clara stepped forward.
“You knew we would find out.”
Thomas smiled.
“Of course.”
I stared at him.
“How?”
He placed his cup down.
“Because your father was predictable.”
My jaw tightened.
“Don’t talk about him.”
His smile faded slightly.
“Your father ruined everything.”
There it was.
The same anger.
The same bitterness.
Everyone who betrayed me had a reason.
But a reason wasn’t an excuse.
“What did you do?”
He leaned back.
“I protected what should have been mine.”
I laughed.
“You destroyed my family.”
“No.”
He looked at me.
“Your family destroyed itself.”
I stepped closer.
“You caused the accident.”
He didn’t answer.
That was answer enough.
My hands tightened.
“You tried to take my company.”
“I tried to save it.”
The absurdity almost made me laugh.
“Save it?”
“Yes.”
“From people like you.”
I froze.
“Me?”
Thomas nodded.
“Your father spoiled you.”
“He gave you everything.”
“And you never understood the responsibility.”
My anger rose.
“You mean I didn’t understand because I wouldn’t give it to you.”
His face hardened.
“There.”
“That arrogance.”
“You think you deserve everything because you were born into it.”
I stared at him.
Then said:
“And you think you deserve it because you spent years pretending to care.”
Silence.
For the first time…
I saw anger.
Real anger.
Then Thomas revealed something I never expected.
“You want the truth?”
I didn’t answer.
He continued anyway.
“Your mother wasn’t the first person I tried to control.”
I frowned.
“What?”
He smiled.
“There was someone before her.”
My heart sank.
“Who?”
He looked at Clara.
And she froze.
“No.”
Thomas nodded.
“Yes.”
I turned to Clara.
“What does he mean?”
Her face became pale.
Thomas laughed.
“Tell him.”
Clara shook her head.
“I…”
“You should tell him.”
I looked at her.
“Clara.”
She closed her eyes.
Then whispered:
“My mother worked for your family.”
I frowned.
“What?”
“She wasn’t just connected to Morgan Holdings.”
“She was connected to Thomas.”
Thomas smiled.
“She knows more than she says.”
I looked at Clara.
“Is that true?”
Tears filled her eyes.
“Yes.”
My chest tightened.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
She looked broken.
“Because I was afraid you would think I came here to hurt you.”
“And did you?”
“No.”
Her answer was immediate.
“I came here because your father asked me to protect you.”
Thomas laughed.
“Your father always had a weakness.”
“What?”
“Believing people could still be good.”
The room went silent.
Then Thomas stood.
And for the first time…
I noticed something.
He wasn’t afraid.
Not even after being exposed.
Because he still had something.
Something we didn’t know.
He walked toward the desk.
Opened a drawer.
And pulled out an envelope.
“My final card.”
He placed it on the table.
I didn’t touch it.
“What is that?”
Thomas smiled.
“The reason you will lose everything.”
I looked at him.
“More lies?”
“No.”
He pushed the envelope toward me.
“Proof.”
I opened it.
Inside was a legal document.
My father’s signature.
My mother’s signature.
And one sentence that destroyed everything:
Morgan Holdings was never legally yours.
I stared.
Impossible.
Thomas whispered:
“Your father built his entire life protecting a lie.”
“And now…”
May you like
He smiled.
“The truth will take everything from you.”
