Chapter 2 - The Architect's Blueprint

The room descended into utter chaos. Guests shrieked, dropping champagne glasses that shattered on the stone floor. Charles Calloway stepped forward, his face turning an angry shade of purple as he waved his hand dismissively at the lead federal officer.
"Do you know who I am?!" Charles bellowed, his voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings. "I am Charles Calloway! I built this city! Call your director immediately or I will have every single one of your badges by nightfall!"
Special Agent Marcus Vance didn't flinch. He was a broad-shouldered man in his late forties with razor-sharp gray eyes and a calm, immovable posture. He stepped directly up to Charles, pulling a folded white document from his jacket.
"Charles Calloway, Ryan Calloway, and Eleanor Calloway," Agent Vance said, his voice amplified by the sudden silence of the room. "I have a federal warrant for your arrest issued by the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas."
"On what grounds?!" Eleanor shrieked, backing away as two female agents stepped toward her. "This is a private residence! This is a family gathering!"
"Wire fraud, securities fraud, tax evasion, money laundering under the RICO Act, and illegal offshore asset concealment," Agent Vance read coolly. "And as of two minutes ago, Dr. Ryan Calloway is also under arrest for felony assault on a pregnant person and attempted murder."
Ryan took a step back, his hands trembling. "Attempted murder?! She fell! She's unstable!"
The two paramedics reached my side, immediately dropping to their knees. One checked my blood pressure while the other carefully stabilized my neck and checked Hunter's heartbeat with a portable Doppler monitor.
Thump... thump... thump...
The rapid, steady sound of Hunter's heart echoed softly through the speaker. A tear slipped down my face, not of pain, but of pure relief.
"She's stabilized, but we need to move her to Dallas General immediately," the paramedic called out to Agent Vance.
As they lifted me onto the gurney, I turned my head slightly toward Ryan. He was staring at me in total disbelief, his arms being forced behind his back by two federal officers as steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.
"How?" Ryan stammered, his voice cracking as he looked at me. "How did they get in here? Who gave them the warrants?"
"I did, Ryan," I said softly, my voice weak but perfectly clear. "I’ve been giving them everything for six months."
Six months ago, I had accidentally discovered a hidden safe behind a bookshelf in Ryan’s private study at home. Inside wasn't just cash or jewelry; it held a secondary hard drive containing double-entry ledgers for Calloway Global. The family hadn't just built an empire; they had built a massive, multi-billion-dollar Ponzi scheme, siphoning funds from pension funds, charity foundations, and foreign investors, using dummy shell companies registered in the Cayman Islands.
When I realized Ryan was poisoning my food with mild synthetic hormones to induce a silent miscarriage so he could leave me without paying a settlement under our ironclad prenuptial agreement, I didn't file for divorce.
I went to the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Every late-night meeting, every altered financial ledger, every encrypted email, and every threat Ryan made against me had been recorded, backed up, and handed directly to Agent Vance.
I wasn't just Ryan Calloway’s victim. I was the federal government's primary confidential informant inside the Calloway empire.
