Chapter 5 - The Anatomy of Fraud

By 6:00 PM that evening, the penthouse was filled with activity.

Harrison Vance arrived in person, accompanied by two forensic accountants and a team of cybersecurity specialists. While the triplets slept soundly in their nursery under the watchful care of a night nurse hired by Arthur, we gathered around the long dining table to examine the contents of the encrypted drive I had held in reserve for four years.

"When Ryan started building Vance-Carter Dynamics," I explained to Harrison, setting up my laptop on the table, "he convinced himself that he was the sole intelligence behind the company. He began creating secondary licensing agreements for our core AI software, routing the royal payments through a shell entity named 'Aegis Global' registered in George Town, Cayman Islands."

Harrison put on his reading glasses, scanning the digital ledgers flashing across the monitor. His expression transformed from professional interest to deep, simmering fury.

"My God," Harrison muttered, slamming his palm onto the table. "He’s been siphoning off eleven percent of our enterprise licensing revenue directly into his personal offshore trust for thirty-six months! He defrauded the entire board, including me!"

"He used those funds to purchase properties under Madison’s family trusts," I added, pulling up a series of property deeds from Florida and Colorado. "He was preparing to divest his primary stock holdings in Vance-Carter during the upcoming Q3 window, crash the company's valuation, and walk away with over forty million dollars in unrecorded assets while leaving the board and shareholders with the fallout."

"This isn't just a divorce case anymore, Emily," Arthur Pendelton said, his voice dropping into a grave tone. "This is a massive federal corporate fraud investigation. The Securities and Exchange Commission will be involved by tomorrow morning."

"Good," I said without hesitation. "Ryan thought I was too tired, too weak, and too dependent to notice what he was doing. When he made me manage his personal tax schedules during my high-risk pregnancy, he assumed I was just copying numbers without reading them. He treated me like an invisible appliance in his home."

At that moment, my phone buzzed with an incoming text from my publisher at HarperCollins.

Emily! Your post has reached twelve million views! Every major television network is begging for an exclusive interview! CBS Mornings wants you on live tomorrow at 7:00 AM! What do you want us to do?!

I stared at the message, feeling the weight of the moment settling over me.

For seven years, I had stood behind Ryan, shrinking myself to make his shadow look larger. I had silenced my own ambitions, managed his home, endured his belittling comments, and carried his three children through pain and terror—only to be discarded like garbage the moment my body showed the physical evidence of that devotion.

He wanted a public image. He lived for validation from strangers and the adoration of his corporate peers.

Now, I was going to give him the absolute, unvarnished spotlight he deserved.

I typed a brief reply to my publisher: Accept the CBS interview. Tell them I will speak live from my nursery tomorrow morning.
