Part 10 The Last Game Arthur Left Behind

The entire room froze.
Nobody spoke.
Nobody even breathed.
On the security monitor, the image flickered.
A man stood inside the underground archive beneath the Whitmore mansion.
Older.
Thinner.
But unmistakable.
Logan Pierce.
The man who had been sentenced.
The man who was supposed to be behind bars.
The man who had destroyed their family once already.
Caleb stared at the screen.
His face turned cold.
“That’s impossible.”
Thomas quickly checked the system.
“It’s real.”
Eleanor’s hands trembled.
“How?”
Nobody answered.
Because the question was impossible.
The police had arrested Logan.
The court had convicted him.
His empire had collapsed.
Yet there he was.
Inside their home.
Standing in the one place where Arthur had hidden his greatest secrets.
Marcus looked strangely calm.
Too calm.
Caleb noticed.
And immediately turned toward him.
“You knew.”
Marcus looked back.
“No.”
“Don’t lie to me.”
His voice was sharp.
“You’re not surprised.”
Marcus stayed silent.
That silence was enough.
Caleb stepped closer.
“You knew he was coming.”
Marcus sighed.
“I suspected.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“You suspected and said nothing?”
Marcus looked at her.
“You don’t understand what Logan is capable of.”
A bitter laugh escaped Caleb.
“Funny.”
He shook his head.
“Everyone keeps saying that.”
He pointed toward the screen.
“Everyone has a reason. Everyone has a secret.”
His eyes filled with frustration.
“And I’m the one who keeps finding out my entire life was built on lies.”
Adrian looked at him.
“Caleb…”
“No.”
He stopped him.
“I need the truth.”
The room became silent.
Finally, Marcus spoke.
“Logan wasn’t working for me.”
Everyone looked at him.
“He was working for someone else.”
Eleanor’s expression changed.
“Who?”
Marcus looked toward the screen.
Then whispered:
“The person who started all of this.”
A chill moved through the room.
Thomas checked the archive camera again.
“Wait.”
He zoomed in.
“There’s someone else.”
The screen shifted.
Another figure appeared.
A woman.
Standing beside Logan.
Eleanor’s face went pale.
“No…”
Caleb looked at her.
“Who is it?”
Eleanor couldn’t answer.
Because she recognized her.
A woman from decades ago.
Someone she had buried in the past.
“Her name was Clara.”
Adrian frowned.
“Clara?”
Eleanor nodded slowly.
“She was Arthur’s first business partner.”
Marcus looked shocked.
“She’s alive?”
Eleanor swallowed.
“She disappeared after Arthur chose me over her.”
The room went quiet.
Caleb stared.
“So this goes back that far?”
Eleanor closed her eyes.
“I thought it ended.”
But Thomas interrupted.
“Everyone, we have a bigger problem.”
He pointed at the monitor.
Logan had opened the main safe.
The archive door was designed with a special security system.
If opened incorrectly…
everything inside would be destroyed.
Caleb looked alarmed.
“What’s in there?”
Thomas answered:
“Your father’s original will.”
Everyone froze.
“The real one.”
Adrian looked at the screen.
“Arthur hid it there.”
Marcus nodded slowly.
“Because he knew someone would try to steal it.”
Eleanor looked confused.
“But why hide a will?”
Thomas hesitated.
“Because the will wasn’t just about money.”
The room became silent.
“What else?”
Thomas looked at Caleb.
“It named the person Arthur believed should control the company.”
Caleb’s heart tightened.
“And?”
Thomas looked back at the screen.
“The name was never revealed.”
A heavy silence followed.
Then—
A loud sound came through the security system.
A message.
Logan’s voice.
Calm.
Confident.
“Hello, Whitmores.”
Everyone froze.
The speakers carried his voice throughout the mansion.
“I know you can hear me.”
Caleb walked toward the monitor.
“Logan.”
A laugh echoed.
“Caleb.”
The way he said his name made everyone uncomfortable.
“You always were the emotional one.”
Caleb’s fists tightened.
“You broke into my home.”
“No.”
Logan corrected.
“I came to reclaim what was taken.”
Marcus stepped forward.
“You’re insane.”
Logan laughed.
“Interesting coming from you.”
Marcus’s face changed.
Logan continued.
“Do you really think Arthur trusted any of you?”
Silence.
“He knew everyone had weaknesses.”
The screen showed Logan holding an old document.
“He knew Eleanor could be manipulated.”
Eleanor looked hurt.
“He knew Marcus was obsessed.”
Marcus looked away.
“He knew Adrian was afraid.”
Adrian closed his eyes.
“And he knew Caleb…”
Logan paused.
“…was desperate to be loved.”
The words hit hard.
Because they were cruel.
And because there was a small piece of truth in them.
Caleb stared at the screen.
“What do you want?”
Logan smiled.
“Simple.”
He held up the document.
“The truth.”
Nobody moved.
Logan continued.
“Arthur left behind a final message.”
A pause.
“And when you hear it…”
His smile widened.
“You’ll finally understand why he never trusted any of you.”
The speakers went silent.
Then the archive lights suddenly turned off.
The security cameras went black.
Thomas looked at the system.
“He cut the feed.”
Caleb looked around.
“What now?”
Nobody answered.
Then the old grandfather clock in the mansion began chiming.
Midnight.
But everyone knew something was wrong.
Because Arthur’s clock only chimed at midnight when someone manually activated it.
Eleanor slowly turned toward the clock.
Her face drained of color.
“No…”
Caleb looked at her.
“What?”
She whispered:
“Arthur left another message.”
The clock stopped.
A hidden compartment opened beneath it.
Inside was a small black box.
And written on the top were five words:
For the final truth.
Caleb reached for it.
But before he could open it…
A gunshot echoed from the basement.
Everyone froze.
And then came Logan’s voice one final time:
“Choose carefully, Caleb.”
May you like
“Because this time…”
“Someone doesn’t leave alive.”
