Part 11 The Final Truth Arthur Hid

The gunshot echoed through the mansion.
One sharp sound.
One terrifying moment.
Then silence.
Nobody moved.
The only thing anyone could hear was the rain outside and the slow beating of their own hearts.
Caleb immediately stepped forward.
“Everyone stay here.”
Eleanor grabbed his arm.
“No.”
He looked at her.
For years, she had tried to protect him.
But this time, he saw something different in her eyes.
Fear.
Not for herself.
For him.
“You’re not going down there alone.”
Caleb looked at her.
“Mom—”
She shook her head.
“I lost too much time already.”
Those words stopped him.
Because they were true.
They had spent years fighting each other.
Years believing they were enemies.
And now, when danger came…
they stood together.
Adrian picked up a heavy fireplace tool.
“I’m coming too.”
Marcus looked at him.
“You?”
Adrian stared back.
“This started because of my family.”
He tightened his grip.
“I’m ending it.”
Thomas checked his phone.
“I already contacted the police.”
Caleb nodded.
“Good.”
Then they moved toward the basement.
Every step felt heavier.
The mansion that had once represented power now felt like a trap.
The hallway lights flickered.
The portraits on the walls watched them silently.
Arthur’s portrait was the last one before the basement stairs.
Caleb stopped.
He looked at his father’s face.
The man who raised him.
The man who left behind secrets.
The man who somehow knew this moment would come.
“I wish you were here.”
He whispered.
Then he continued down.
The basement door was open.
That was wrong.
The Whitmore archive had always been locked.
Protected.
Nobody entered without Arthur’s authorization.
Caleb slowly pushed the door.
Inside, the lights were off.
“Logan?”
No answer.
Then they saw it.
The security room.
The monitors were broken.
The floor was covered with scattered documents.
And in the middle of the room…
was Logan.
Sitting calmly in a chair.
Waiting.
Eleanor stopped.
Because he was not holding a weapon.
He was holding a folder.
“You came.”
Caleb stared.
“What did you do?”
Logan smiled.
“Still asking the wrong questions.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“You shot someone.”
Logan looked amused.
“Did I?”
The lights suddenly turned on.
And everyone froze.
Because on the floor beside the archive entrance was a man.
Not dead.
Injured.
Marcus.
A bullet wound in his shoulder.
Eleanor gasped.
“Marcus!”
Caleb looked at Logan.
“You shot him.”
Logan shrugged.
“He tried to stop me.”
Marcus gritted his teeth.
“Don’t listen to him.”
Logan laughed.
“Still pretending to be the hero?”
Marcus looked at him.
“I know what you are.”
“And you know what you are?”
Logan stepped closer.
“A man who finally stopped losing.”
Caleb’s eyes narrowed.
“You wanted the will.”
Logan held up the folder.
“I already found it.”
Everyone froze.
The final will.
Arthur’s last decision.
Logan smiled.
“But this isn’t what you think.”
Caleb moved forward.
“What does that mean?”
Logan opened the folder.
“Your father didn’t leave the company to you.”
Silence.
Eleanor looked shocked.
“Impossible.”
Logan pulled out a document.
“Arthur changed everything.”
Caleb felt his chest tighten.
“Who did he choose?”
Logan looked at him.
Then smiled.
“Not one person.”
He turned the paper around.
The names were visible.
Eleanor.
Caleb.
And…
Adrian.
Everyone froze.
Adrian stared.
“No.”
Logan laughed.
“Arthur wanted the company controlled by the people connected to his mistakes.”
Caleb looked confused.
“He wanted us to work together?”
“Yes.”
Logan smiled.
“The great Arthur Whitmore finally admitted something.”
He tapped the document.
“Power should never belong to one person.”
Eleanor looked at the will.
“That sounds like him.”
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then Caleb looked at Logan.
“Why do you care?”
The smile disappeared.
Because that question touched something deeper.
Logan’s face changed.
“You want to know?”
He laughed bitterly.
“Because Arthur destroyed my family.”
Adrian frowned.
“What?”
Logan looked at him.
“My father worked for Arthur.”
Silence.
“He built half of Whitmore Property Group.”
He pointed at Eleanor.
“And when he died, Arthur took everything.”
Eleanor shook her head.
“That’s not true.”
“You don’t remember.”
Logan’s eyes filled with anger.
“But I do.”
He stepped closer.
“My father died believing Arthur stole his life.”
Caleb stared.
“Your father…”
Logan nodded.
“Arthur was never the hero you believed.”
Eleanor looked hurt.
“Arthur made mistakes.”
She spoke quietly.
“But he spent his life trying to fix them.”
Logan laughed.
“Too late.”
“No.”
Eleanor looked at him.
“That’s why he created the foundation.”
“That’s why he left this will.”
She stepped closer.
“Because he knew he failed people.”
For a second…
Logan hesitated.
A tiny crack appeared in his anger.
Then he looked away.
“No.”
He shook his head.
“He doesn’t get forgiveness.”
Suddenly—
Sirens sounded outside.
Police.
Logan heard them.
His expression changed.
Panic.
Just for a moment.
Then he grabbed the folder.
Caleb moved.
“Don’t.”
Logan backed toward the exit.
“You don’t understand.”
Caleb stepped closer.
“Understand what?”
Logan’s eyes became desperate.
“That if the truth comes out…”
He looked at everyone.
“Everyone loses.”
The basement door opened.
Police officers entered.
“Logan Pierce!”
He froze.
The officers surrounded him.
But before they reached him…
Logan looked at Caleb.
And said something that made everyone stop.
“Ask your mother what happened the night Arthur died.”
Eleanor’s face went white.
Caleb slowly turned.
“Mom?”
She couldn’t answer.
Because for the first time…
Eleanor Whitmore looked afraid.
Not of Logan.
Of the truth.
And Caleb realized:
The final secret wasn’t about Arthur.
May you like
It was about the person standing beside him all along.
His mother.
