Chapter 5 - The Public Fall

At 2:30 PM, three unmarked police cruisers pulled up outside the glittering glass tower of Holloway Capital Management in the heart of Manhattan’s financial district.

I sat in the back of Detective Miller’s car, wearing an elegant dark coat that left my bruised face completely exposed to the afternoon sun. Beside me, Sarah Vance held the court documents that would strip Adrian of everything he owned.

“Are you ready for this, Clara?” Sarah asked gently. “Once we step through those doors, there is no turning back. The media will catch wind of this within the hour.”

“I’ve been waiting for this moment for three years, Sarah,” I replied, looking up at the towering glass building that my father’s stolen money had helped build. “Let’s end this.”

We entered the grand marble lobby of Holloway Capital. The building was bustling with traders, analysts, and high-profile clients. When the security guards saw me entering flanked by two NYPD detectives and a prominent high-stakes divorce attorney, panic rippled through the reception desk.

“Mrs. Holloway!” the head security guard stammered, stepping out from behind his desk. “Mr. Holloway is currently in a high-level board meeting with our primary foreign investors—”

“We know,” Detective Miller said, displaying her badge and the signed arrest warrant. “Which means he’s exactly where we need him to be.”

We rode the private glass elevator up to the 40th floor. My heart beat with a steady, powerful rhythm. The fear that had kept me captive for three years had completely burned away, replaced by a cold, uncompromising demand for justice.

When the elevator doors opened on the executive floor, the glass walls of the main conference room were immediately visible. Inside, Adrian was standing at the head of a massive mahogany table, gesturing confidently toward a wall of presentation screens showing glowing financial graphs. Surrounding him were ten of the most powerful institutional investors in the city, alongside his compliance officer—and secret mistress—Chloe Vance.

Adrian was in his element, radiating absolute power and charm.

Then, I walked through the double glass doors of the conference room.

The chatter in the room instantly died. Every eye turned toward me.

Adrian’s expression shifted instantly from corporate confidence to furious disbelief. He stared at my face—at the raw, violent bruise beneath my eye that I had refused to hide under his expensive makeup.

“Clara?” Adrian said, his voice dropping into that familiar, warning tone. He pushed back his chair and walked toward me, trying to maintain a tight smile for his investors. “What are you doing here? I told you to stay at home with my mother. And what is wrong with your face? Did you—”

“Adrian Holloway,” Detective Miller interrupted, stepping in front of me and presenting the warrant. “You are under arrest for felony domestic assault, battery, and grand larceny.”

A collective gasp echoed across the board room. Chloe Vance stood up so fast her chair almost fell over, her face turning pale.

Adrian chuckled nervously, looking at his investors. “This... this is a ridiculous joke. A domestic dispute that my wife is dramatically exaggerating. Officer, my legal team will have this cleared up in five minutes—”

“There is no clearing this up, Adrian,” Sarah Vance said, stepping forward and laying a thick sheaf of legal papers on the board table. “A court order has been issued freezing all assets of Holloway Capital Management due to evidence of systemic wire fraud, forgery, and illegal conversion of trust assets belonging to Clara Holloway.”

The lead investor at the table—a stern man who managed a five-billion-dollar pension fund—stood up immediately. “What is the meaning of this, Adrian? Is this firm being audited?”

“No! Absolutely not! It’s an insane lie!” Adrian shouted, his smooth composure finally cracking. He lunged toward me, his hand reaching out as if to grab my arm. “Clara, tell them! Tell them you’re doing this because I wouldn't let you—”

Before he could lay a finger on me, Detective Miller grab his arm, twisted it behind his back, and slammed him face-first against the glass wall of his prized conference room.

Snap.

The sound of metal handcuffs clicking closed around Adrian’s wrists echoed through the silent room.
