PART 2

For five seconds, nobody moved.

Not Adrian.

Not Vanessa.

Not even me.

The only sound in the room was the faint ticking of the antique clock on the wall.

A clock Adrian had bought after our wedding.

A clock he said represented “the beginning of our perfect life.”

Funny how quickly perfect things became evidence of something rotten.

Adrian stared at me.

Then he laughed.

A small, uncertain laugh.

The kind people make when they are trying to convince themselves they are still in control.

“Who was that supposed to be?”

I didn’t answer.

I just looked at him.

For the first time in years, I wasn’t afraid of his anger.

That confused him more than anything.

Because Adrian only understood power when it came from intimidation.

He didn’t understand quiet strength.

He didn’t understand patience.

He didn’t understand what happened when someone finally stopped caring about losing something.

Vanessa placed her glass on the table.

Her confidence was returning.

Slowly.

“You’re bluffing.”

She looked me up and down.

“You expect us to believe your father is some kind of powerful man?”

She laughed.

“Adrian told me everything.”

Of course he did.

Adrian loved telling people stories.

Especially stories where he was the hero.

“He said your father disappeared years ago.”

I smiled faintly.

“He wanted you to believe that.”

Her expression changed slightly.

Just slightly.

Because deep down, she knew.

Something about me had always bothered her.

The way I never begged.

The way I never fought for attention.

The way I never reacted when Adrian showed off his wealth.

She thought I was weak.

But weakness and restraint look very similar to people who have never experienced real power.

Adrian stepped closer.

“You think your father can scare me?”

His eyes narrowed.

“You don’t understand who you’re dealing with.”

I looked at him.

“Actually, Adrian, I understand exactly who I’m dealing with.”

My voice was calm.

“You’re a man who built a fake empire by stealing from people.”

His face changed.

Only for a moment.

But I saw it.

Fear.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Oh, I do.”

I touched the pendant around my neck.

“The recordings were very helpful.”

The room went completely still.

Vanessa stopped breathing.

“What recordings?”

I smiled.

“The ones where you explained how you moved money through fake consulting companies.”

Adrian’s face went pale.

For years, I had watched him.

Not because I suspected him at first.

Because I loved him.

I wanted to understand him.

Why he changed.

Why the man who once brought me flowers suddenly became someone who barely looked at me.

Then I noticed things.

Missing documents.

Strange phone calls.

Accounts that didn’t make sense.

Vanessa appearing in places she shouldn’t have been.

At first, I thought it was an affair.

I was wrong.

It was much bigger.

Three months ago, I found the first clue.

A company called V&K Consulting.

Owned by Vanessa.

A company that earned millions despite having almost no employees.

No real clients.

No actual business.

Just money moving in circles.

And the final destination?

Adrian.

My father’s security team confirmed what I suspected.

Fraud.

Embezzlement.

Money laundering.

Adrian wasn’t just cheating on me.

He was building a criminal operation.

Using my family name.

Using my silence.

Using my trust.

Adrian looked at the door.

Then the windows.

Calculating.

Looking for an escape.

That was when I knew.

The arrogant husband who thought he was untouchable was gone.

Now there was only a scared man.

“Where are the files?”

His voice was different.

No anger.

No confidence.

Just panic.

I tilted my head.

“What files?”

“The evidence.”

I smiled.

“Why?”

He stepped forward.

“Because you don’t understand what you’re doing.”

“No.”

I corrected him.

“You don’t understand what I’m doing.”

My phone suddenly vibrated.

A message appeared.

From Dad.

DONE.

Just one word.

But Adrian saw my expression.

And he knew something had happened.

“What did he do?”

I looked at the screen.

Then back at my husband.

“Your bank accounts were frozen.”

His face changed.

“No.”

“The board members received the evidence.”

His breathing became heavier.

“No.”

“Your investors were informed.”

I paused.

“And the authorities have copies.”

Vanessa stood up quickly.

“That’s impossible.”

She grabbed her phone.

“No signal.”

She looked terrified.

“My phone isn’t working.”

I smiled.

“Dad’s security team is very efficient.”

Adrian looked at me like he was seeing me for the first time.

“Who are you?”

The question almost made me laugh.

After three years.

After everything.

That was what he wanted to know?

Who I was?

I slowly stood.

My legs hurt.

My body was exhausted.

But my mind was clear.

“I’m the woman you married.”

I looked him in the eyes.

“The woman you underestimated.”

A pause.

“And the daughter of the man who gave you every opportunity you ever had.”

The front doors suddenly opened.

Not with force.

Not dramatically.

Just calmly.

Because people with real power never need to announce themselves.

Several men in dark suits entered.

Behind them walked my father.

Richard Hayes.

The man Adrian claimed was a nobody.

The man he mocked.

The man he thought was weak.

My father looked at me first.

Not Adrian.

Not Vanessa.

Me.

His expression softened.

“Are you hurt?”

I nodded.

“A little.”

His eyes turned cold.

And the entire room changed.

Because everyone understood one thing.

The person Adrian feared most had arrived.

My father looked at Adrian.

“I trusted you with my daughter.”

Adrian opened his mouth.

Nothing came out.

My father continued.

“And you mistook kindness for weakness.”

The silence was unbearable.

Then Dad said:

“Take him.”

Two words.

That was all.

The men moved.

Adrian finally panicked.

“Wait!”

He looked at me.

“Please.”

Please.

A word I never heard from him.

Not once.

Until he needed something.

I looked at him.

And felt nothing.

Not anger.

Not sadness.

Nothing.

Because the woman who loved Adrian Vale had already died.

She died with the first lash.

May you like

The rest of me…

was here to finish what she couldn’t.
