Chapter 10 - The Horizon Ahead

One year later.

The penthouse deck of the Sterling Tower in Manhattan was cool and breezy as the sun began to set over the Hudson River, painting the evening sky in brilliant shades of violet, pink, and gold.

I stood near the glass railing, wearing a comfortable cashmere sweater, holding a glass of iced tea, watching the city lights begin to flicker on across the skyline.

Below me, the global financial markets were closing for the day. Sterling Global Investments had just recorded its highest quarterly profit in company history, solidifying our position as the undisputed leader in ethical global asset management.

Heavy, gentle footsteps approached behind me.

Harrison stepped out onto the deck, setting two legal files on the outdoor table. He leaned his elbows on the glass railing beside me, looking out at the river.

"Grandfather passed the formal vote through the board this afternoon," Harrison said softly. "You are officially named as his sole successor as Supreme Chairperson of the Sterling Dynasty upon his retirement next spring."

I smiled gently, taking a slow sip of my tea. "Did the board raise any objections?"

"Are you joking?" Harrison laughed softly. "After what you did to the short-sellers in London last month? Half the board thinks you're a wizard, and the other half is terrified of you. You have one hundred percent of the vote."

He looked at me, his eyes filled with profound brotherly love and deep respect. "How are you feeling, Sloan?"

I closed my eyes for a moment, letting the cool evening breeze wash over my face, listening to the soft sound of piano music drifting out from the penthouse living room, where Penny was taking her evening lesson from a master concert pianist.

"I feel free, Harrison," I whispered, opening my eyes to look at the golden horizon ahead. "For ten years, I thought my life was defined by the cage I was trapped in. But now I know that the cage was just a minor detour. My life is defined by what I build next."

"And what are you building next, Phantom Architect?" Harrison smiled.

"An empire," I replied, turning my head to look at my brother, my eyes bright with fire, genius, and absolute authority. "An empire where my daughter will never have to shrink herself for anyone, where truth always triumphs over lies, and where the Sterling name will stand as an unbreakable shield for generations to come."

Penny ran out onto the deck, wearing her pajama set, her eyes bright with joy as she held up a freshly drawn picture of a giant silver castle under a golden sun.

"Look, Mommy! Look what I drew!" Penny cheered, holding the paper up.

I dropped to my knees, wrapping my arms tight around my daughter, pulling her warm, precious body close to my heart, looking at the drawing, then out at the endless, brilliant city lights stretching out into the dusk.

The darkness was gone forever.

The storm had passed.

And the sun would never set on the Sterling Dynasty again.
